Alright guys, help me out here. I can't tell if I'm being paranoid or not. I removed the CDV entirely and bled the clutch having a person pump and hold the clutch for me a couple of times. It was hard to get the bleed nipple opened and closed though. I definitely feel the clutch is smoother, but I can't tell if my pedal is as firm or not. How do I tell for sure if I have air in the system? Would it be very obvious? Would I be smelling burning clutch or something?

Popped the restrictor out the OEM CDV tonight, simple 30 min project and seems to have made a difference. I did not get much time to drive tonight, I'll give more feedback tomorrow. Thanks OP for the DIY, very simple.

IF there is any air in the hydraulic lines your pedal will feel "spongy' or "soft" and maybe slow to return after being depressed fully. I would rebleed your clutch. I re did mine a few days later bc I too had problems getting all the air out. And I used a pressure bleeder! You might try "reverse bleeding" of the clutch slave. I've seen some youtube videos on it. Here is one on a ATV... same idea as on a car. I even saw one guy use a (new) old fashsion hand oil-er... he filled it new with brake fluid... then used a hose up to his clutch slave nipple... and used the oiler's hand pump to reverse bleed his clutch slave. That to me seems like a really good way to get all the air out of the system. The air bubbles will naturally want to raise in the direction of the pumping of the brake fluid. MAKE SURE you only use a brand new "oiler" for reverse bleeding! IF there is any oil in that oiler it will bond congel with brake fluid! |

Thanks Dackel, I think I'm going to give it a few more days since I think it's just in my head. It's definitely not spongy and doesn't take any time to return. I just felt like it might be softer, but I think that may have been a combo of it feeling smoother and as I've seen others indicate in this thread, just pumping the pedal enough times after initially bleeding it.

Just took out the CDV today, only got to drive it a short while. Honestly I didn't feel much of a difference. Maybe when I take it out after work and can put a couple miles on it I will notice a change.

When I did it to my 135 I too didnt feel a difference... after years of having it that way when I got into the 1M I immediately noticed it and removing the CDV was immediately noticeable too.

Has anyone had issues with completely removing the CDV? I purchased a modded one from Bavauto but it didn't even fit. The recess for the steel hose fitting was 2mm too shallow. I decided to just remove it entirely and drove it around. After that I managed to "roll over" the orifice in the original with a punch, since I had it out. It looked like the modded one but when I put it back on, I felt like it went back to having the complete original.
Basically what I am asking, is there any reason to just not completely remove it rather then mod or purchase a "professionally" modded one? |

The benefit of having the modified one is that you won't have to reinstall the stock CDV if you go into BMW for service. The shifts are smoother both with the modified CDV and without a CDV at all.

Hi: I finally did this job after 85,000 km. What a difference. The grab point was a little lower when I finished, but I was used to it after a few shifts.

did the cdv delete (replacement) today. took about 30 minutes--i think the hardest part was getting the car onto ramps without scratching up the air dam.
engagement point is much more predictable. most noticable in the shift from 1 to 2. |

Not sure if SRS... does your automatic have a clutch? the third pedal? No? Clutch Delay Valve, should give you a hint as to if it will work on an Auto.
