VRSF 7" HD INTERCOOLER! | Road to 400WHP on 93 octane build
I recently installed my VRSF 7" inch intercooler and have now been driving around with it for a little over 1 week. Im extremely satisfied with the intercooler and think it is easily the best intercooler on the market for the money and also one of the best intercoolers period.
The HD core is well worth every cent and as you can see in the video it is very, very, high density. My IAT's are amazing, they drop to ambient temp by the time I pull out of my neighborhood (only 5 or so degrees above on start up) and stay at ambient temp when I cruise / Daily Drive. even short 1 gear pulls don't rise the IATs above ambient. and on a 2nd - 4th gear pull on a hot, summer day only rise like 5-6 degrees and quickly drops back down after. Follow this thread or my youtube channel to see the rest of my build to get to 400WHP on 93 octane. I plan to do catless downpipes, full 3.5" BMR exhaust, and my car already has DCI intakes and an HKS BOV with a VRSF chargepipe. Here is a youtube video on the install and review:

thanks guys! I was debating putting that in but I decided not too cause I didnt want to make the video too long, but the bumper removal is very simple. There are 2 8MM screws in the wheel well on both front wheels, and then 1 top 8mm screw in the wheel well in the corner of the bumper. Then just some 8mm screws along the bottom of the car and it pops right off

I've put 7" VRSF units on both of my N54 cars. Pretty solid bang for the buck.
Although I was able to do mine pretty easily without taking the bumper off. |

the bumper removal wasnt completely necessary, But I really wanted to learn how to remove it for other things im planning on my car like a front lip (the omgsplitters one, that needs to have holes drilled for it) and also i wanted to make the shroud trimming as easy as possible.
Id say the ade 650 one is great but this HD core really is amazing. I think the HD core could definately potentially be better than the 650 one from ADE. Ill take some data logs soon for people who want to see exactly how good it is and compare to other units

The HD is great performer, I highly recommend if you want the most efficient 7" out of the VRSF line up. It's a great bang for the buck FMIC.

Sorry if noob question, but will this fit on '13 model? Everywhere I see lists this as fitting '08-'12 (even their own page). I talked to an online sales rep earlier today and he gave me an "I think so".

VRSF claims their regular 5/7in bar and plate type cores are more dense then competitors. They also claim this super density doesn't result in any pressure drop. Then they release a tube and fin core with an even denser fin pack and tout it as an even superior product. In reality a tube and fin design may be more dense (go look at how "dense" a stock intercooler is!), but actually provides for less efficient cooling capacity than a bar and plate design. They still tout that super duper fin pack density though. The advantage of the 7" HD core is that it is still more than efficient enough to handle stock turbos, it is LIGHTER, and it will also flow more freely than the comparable 7" bar and plate core VRSF has. See Wagners bar&plate (performance series) vs tube and fin (competition series) airflow data comparison if you want data to support the above assertion. I do think the 7" hd core is the better buy based on the above. You really do need data logs too though to determine if the 7" HD core really can suppress IATs as well as the standard 7" bar and plate... Haven't seen any comparison done on the same car in the same conditions. |
