135i vs C5 Z06

I posted this same thread on N54 tech, figured I’d like to hear more thoughts from you 1er’s

Firstly, I apologize if this is in the wrong section This is not really a who is faster thread though, I'd like to hear your guys' take/opinion on my situation!!

So, I'm in the market for a new daily and torn between paying in full for a 80-90k ish mile 135i for around 7-10k.. OR a lower 30-50k miles c5 z06 for around 18k and financing that.

Basically my dilemma is;
Even though I'll be financing the Vette compared to the paid in full n54, I feel that I'll be able to beat on the Vette a little harder without worrying about things breaking here and there. However, the n54 will be paid off & with a good couple bolt ons it will be a rocket ship and beat the z06 in a straight line. However, n54 comes with n54 jazz (proper preventative maintenance costs, hpfp, water pump failures, etc)

tl;dr Finance a lower mile c5 z06 or pay in full a higher mile 135i? All my friends are telling me to do the Vette simply for less headaches, however, part of me has always had a soft spot for N54's.. really 50/50 on this and figured I could get some insight from the N54 side of things!!

Assuming affordability isn't a big issue, that you have a 2nd vehicle to drive available, no duties involved like needing to haul a kid around, and so on... drive both and buy the one that is more fun. Simple as that.

When I got my 1, the Z, Evo, STi, and others were also on my list. Then I drove them all. The 1 left the rest in the dust for a variety of reasons and the only one I loved immediately. Drive both of those and hope the same happens for you.

I know this isn’t what you’re asking, but why not a low mileage 135i for around $18k?

Considered that but I feel like I’d be paying an inflated price for an n54 that will give me issues in the future with it's common failure points once the mileage begins to stack$$

I currently have both a Corvette and a N54 135i. Granted it’s not a C5 but a C6 Z51 car which in stock form is a very near clone of the C5Z performance wise. Given the choice between the two cars you’re talking about, I’d take the Corvette every day.

Sub'd.

I've thought about my current 135i (N55/DCT) vs owning a Mustang or Camaro....interested in everyone's input as well.

+1.

I have owned plenty of C5's and C6's.

Very easy to make more power...just a set of longtubes and a ported fast w/ tune on a C5Z will have you right at 400/400 to the wheels in a light car.

And I have beat the crap out of everyone I have owned. Still wouldn't hesitate to hop in it tomorrow and drive across the country. And they are a lot easier to work on than a lot of people realize.
