Adaptive headlight failed after lowering it

After installing H&R Sport Springs...2 wks later my Adaptive headlight failed(greenlight blinking on headlight switch, warning sign on dash) Before taking it to the dealership i reinstalled the stock springs. Would lowering it cause out of warranty?

So They replaced the adaptive headlight sensor/module, headlights and it still fails from what my SA says. The car it is still at the dealership with BMW NA helping out the Shop foreman. Should i tell my SA that it was lowered or just leave it to them to figuere out?

Thanks for your 2cents worth

The BMW performance springs also lower the car. I am not aware of any changes to the headlights when installing the performance springs and the headlights work just fine with those springs. You can check with Dan@United if you really wanted to know for sure.

I believe that there is a level sensing switch that attaches from the body to the lower control arm. The computer gets a single from the sensor to determine the leveling based on suspension height. It's possible it may have been damaged in the install but is not showing any obvious signs. It's a possible cause.

As far as whether or not to say something...that's your call. It could help or hurt.

Ding-ding-ding! Winner!

When removing the strut to install the springs, unless you took specific care to disconnect the level sensor link to the lower control arm (and took care not to bang it or when reattaching it) then it's VERY easy to break the sensor, by hyperextending the travel arm on it, by not disconnecting it, banging it, or reconnecting it wrong.

I'm shocked that the techs are having a hard time figuring this out. That sensor would be the FIRST thing I'd look at, just because of it's location. Hitting something like a recapped tire on the interstate could easily kill it.

just let them figure it out, you've already gone this far, they probably wont take very kindly of you telling them thsi late in the game. I doubt they know you've lowered it, or else they would've figured it out by now, so just keep quiet and they'll get there.

They replaced the module(leveling sensor i guess) and reprogrammed the ECU for the lighting. I don't know why they couldn't figure that out.

Yeah i know. I will find a time to reinstall the fronts. I just hope it doesn't go out again....just a hassle with the dealership.
