They are only like $100 plus the use of an air compressor/shop vac and the walnut shells
You can buy the intake attachment from BMW or make your own. |

http://www.harborfreight.com/portabl...kit-37025.html You have to modify the sprayer a bit larger to fit the walnut shells. ahhh here we go: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=645616 If a few people with some garage space want to try this out, I am game to do it over a weekend EDIT - a photo of the BMW vacuum adapter is on page 2, you put the walnut nozzel in the little hole and the vacuum thing goes right on the valve Last edited by heiman5; 03-26-2013 at 03:24 PM.. |

My dad has an air compressor and a small-medium garage. I just am not sure I'm completely comfortable doing it myself. I have yet to take the intake mani off and we would have to rotate the crank to open/close the valves manually. I don't have any experience doing this myself, so I can probably offer up space and tools if someone's a little more comfortable with at least showing us how to do the blasting.

after doing more reading, this is not something I am comfortable doing without having someone more knowledgeable then I present. There is too much of a risk of having some particles not getting sucked out and things going south. At least with a professional you can hold them accountable.

I may just go for it, only issue being lack of an air compressor, but I think I could just craigslist a beater. After all, a walnut shell crumb or two are combustible, unlike any water based cleaner / solution or something scary like sand |

I've got access to a large compressor tank, air lines and connections, tools and shop vac just off 495 in Marlborough if someone needs the space.

Let me know if this is happening. I would chip in for some of the part costs if I can make it. I have a 2007 335i with ~55k miles, but have no idea what my valves are like.
I agree that it is a bit involved and time consuming, and I don't have much expertise in engine dismantling.

sorry guys haven't really been on here much.
So the cost is $825 but that includes intake manifold gaskets, and replacement of the spark plugs with OEM replacements. They replace the spark plugs because the tech at Ace like to run the engine after doing the walnut blasting and he showed me how it tends to still foul up plugs right after the cleaning. Once he runs everything he puts in new plugs and does an oil change. I can say the attention to detail at Ace really made me comfortable leaving my car with them. I would say give Baer a call let him know Seelan sent you there and he will take care of you. |
