Commemorative Book Ch. 10
I'm torn between starting my own story or leaving it blank. How many of you are actually going to write in your commemorative book, and how many of you are going to leave it blank?
In away, it's not really worth much since your VIN is part of the book. It's only worth something to you, the owner and possibly the next owner if you sell the car. That said, there's not really any point to keeping it in "mint" condition. Still, if you're like me...you don't even want to touch it and leave it in some kind of immortalized display case.

I was hoping to have seen one of the commemorative books show up on eBay or abebooks. Haven't seen any in my infrequent peeks at the market.
Normally marks - especially permanent - (other than an author's inscription or autograph) devalue the book. I have no clue how it would affect the value of this book since I have no idea how the market values this book. |

atr_hugo, I wouldn't think the book is really worth anything to anyone else since the VIN number printed in the book is specific to just one car. Therefore, I don't think there's really any value to lose by writing in it. However, if you're like me and you just like things pristine and new, you probably haven't written in it yet...or ever.
Why are you looking for them on eBay?

Even with the VIN in the cover - the book is going to have some value because it's realtively rare - but collectors aren't aware of it yet evidently.
eBay has some interesting automotive material on it. See this: http://************/7osbyh When Dodge passed these press kits out at the CAS last year a large number of them ended up on eBay. Within 48 hours some of them were going for over $200. Sometimes it pays to be an automotive journalist. ; -) |

But then...would you really be willing to part with YOUR commemorative book for $200? I haven't even parted with the box it came in!

Who knows what it's worth - there is no market value established for it. It could be $25 or $500 - we just don't know.
I'll put the book in the car when it's sold at some point in the future (or I may just keep it ; -). In the grand scheme of things though the content of the book is of little value, it's just marketing fluff. |

That's true...the majority of the book is just kissing up to you, telling you you're a great individual, have a great sense of style, an appreciation for a fine car, etc.
I don't know though...could I part with the book for even $500? Could you?

You can't really think of it in today's context. Imagine what a book like this would be worth now if it had been handed out with a 2002Tii, or early M3. I'm writing in mine, because when I'm famous after I'm dead, it will be worth a fortune for my family when they sell it. |
