I really hope the commercial conflicts aren't passed into this forum, from what I've read and seen it seems that E90post in particular has a lot of the tune vs tune thing which is annoying, it is here but not as much which is good

I'm curious how the accounts will be handled. Everything over there is a single account and I can't imagine 1addicts would be a lone holdout for a separate login (though, that might keep some of the e90post spam out of the 1er threads).

Well, what's done is done, but I sure hope 1addicts.com continues to work, because otherwise all those 1addicts stickers become worthless. I too am concerned with all of the tune wars going on over there coming into 1addicts. It's been nice having one of the most mature, open and non-biased forum out there, but everything changes eventually. Plus now we will definitely be getting many of the 335 owners with buyers remorse coming into the 1er forums to bash our cars; I never notice 1 owners doing that in the 3er forums, but hey. Please oh please mods keep up the good and honest work!

I dunno about that...
I think since we all own 1's none of us are biased against the 1. Maybe this merge will be a good thing because it will force us to deal with criticism towards our car...even if that criticism is biased.

If such information is true more Moderators will be needed to keep things in place. I for one have been sort of disgusted by the way E90post handles things. This an uphill battle for all of us, some will leave, most will stay. I will keep an open mind when the merger happens. Best of luck to everyone.

Sounds like a big step for 1Addicts to me...
I appreciate the new features like the own "garage", new groups and so on, but i really hope to see no flame-wars between 1er vs. 3er. In the past we were protected to that with the registration.. every new user had to register themselve, now it will be much more easier. They just switching over... But i am also looking forward.. i´ve registered in 2006 my account at E90Post and followed the forum a long time till i decided to take the 135i over a 330i. Will be good to see old friends at E90Post and to appear with my 135i.. btw. also a noob question: Is it possible to migrate user accounts?

Just don't do anything you can't undo.
The only advantages I see at Bimmerpost are the Events Calendar and Feature Car, otherwise I share the concerns of many that rather than get a larger group of constructive 1 owners, we'll just get a larger group of trolls and jerks.

I think the best way to look at what the merger will look like is to look not at E90Post but the other smaller sites which are attached attached to bimmerpost such as M3Post and ZPost. If you look at those forums they have none of the bad attitude that E90Post has and really have a completly separate community spirit. I think we would have the same atmosphere and place in relation to E90Post.
***If you have an account on E90Post already then the two accounts will be merged as one, we choose to leave the E90Post account name as the dominant name since there are many more Bimmerpost accounts then 1addict accounts that will be merged. However if your account name is different between the two sites, just PM me after the merge and I can change it to what you want And if we are unhappy with the arrangement in the future then the merger can be undone, so I kept that little ace in my back pocket. But I honestly don't forsee any problems at all, just look at how M3Post and Zpost are run on that site, and you can see that the E90Post people really stay to their own space.

I think one of the biggest questions is: Will our link on the site still be referred to as 1addicts.com? Or will it switch to something nice and boring like E80post or something of its like?

One thing to remember about the 3 series enthusiasts, there are many more of them than 1er owners. And that's OK. The strength of a forum is the size of its membership. We get stronger going forward.
Many of the E9x owners previously owned BMWs and have been on the BMW scene for some time. They've 'been there, done that'. Many of the things we're going through now have been hashed out a couple of years ago there. But one of the delights of 1Addicts is that its members have such varied automotive experience, from zero to car-guru, and it's nice to have that perspective. And it works here since many of us are not returning BMW owners. We are dipping our toes in BMW culture together for the first time. Personally I look forward to the merge - there are a lot of things (N54, Commercial Sales, etc) that become common. How about meaningful 'group buys' when 5er, 3er, and 1er N54 owners (or N52 for that matter) decide they need a discount on parts. I can only speak for myself, but I'll do my best to intercede quietly when necessary and to continue to provide unappreciated humor whenever the mood strikes. ; -) |
