VMR VB3 fitment question

I have a set of VB3 (CSL reps) that I used on my 335 coupe the past few summers (I recently traded the 335 for a 135). The wheels are 19x8.5 in the front (with a 235/35/19 tire) and 19x9.5 in the rear (with a 265/30/19 tire). The front wheels have a 40mm offset and the rears are 45mm.

I know there are some people out there running these wheels on their 1 series. I realize I need to switch to a narrower tire in order not to have any rubbing.

However, my question is, for those of you running these exact wheels with a 245 tire in the rear and a 215 up front, are you having any rubbing issues at all? Before I order new tires for these wheels, I want to make sure this set-up will work without rubbing. Any feedback on this would be appreciated! Thanks!

Never had a issue running 215 front and 245 rear. I do think the car needs more rubber on the ground tho. I'd go with a narrow 255.

What kind of tire are you running now? Also, do you know of a tire that runs real narrow?

I am still on the stock run-craps, Dunlop sp sports 215 fronts and 245 rears. Toyo's and Falken's run narrow.

So you're not running the 19" wheels I would like to put on my 1 then? I know the stock wheels and tires don't have any rubbing issues, but I'm trying to find out if there are people running the same 19" CSL rep wheels I have and if they are having any rubbing issues with them.

BTW, thanks for the info on the types of tires that run narrow.

18 inch csl reps and 19 inch csl reps have the same offset and run the same risk of rubbing, seeing as the tires are taller on the 18's. Many members on here are running the 19's with 255's.

If you run 245's you will not rub at all. If you run a narrow tire 255's you will not rub either.

There are many articles on it, Search.

Mblau, if you are on the stock suspension and running narrow shouldered tires, you might be able to run 235/35 fr and 265/30 r with those offsets. The tire brand will be very critical though.

My offsets are very similar and I'm lowered nearly an inch and I run 235/35 fr and 255/30 rears on my 19's. My front slams hard but rarely. I haven't had a chance to look in to it yet. My rears never rub but my fenders are rolled. I'm pretty sure I could run 265 rears with little or no rubbing.

If I were you I'd order Toyo T1r's, 225/35 and 255/30. I don't think this will rub at all with those wheels, even if you decide to lower an inch or less.

OK, thanks for the info! I tried the search once, but couldn't find much, but I'll try it again. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on a new set of tires and then have problems with rubbing.

That's very helpful, thanks! I am running General Exclaim UHP tires right now. Do these run narrow? Also, I have the BMW performance suspension on my car, which I think lowers it maybe half an inch. So based on my set-up, do you think I will be OK, especially if I switch to a 215 and 245 tires front and rear?

With 8.5" wide fronts, I'd definitely use 225 width tires. Otherwise, I'm 98% sure that you'd be okay if you went with narrow tires like Toyo's or Falkens. It may be hard to find a 245/30 btw.

I'm not sure about how the General's run. I had considered them due to price and also they are the lightest tires around but I went with Toyo's just to be safe since they are pretty much the narrowest running tires. The Toyo's ride great, I'm very happy with them.

225 and 255 will rub in the back. but tires will look thick and not streched.

Thanks again for the info! I wish I knew if the general's ran narrow or wide since I would like to get them again (they are pretty cheap and seem to grip and wear pretty good).

So, it's sounds like if I run a narrow 225 and 255 I should be good and if I run a 215/245 I definitely won't have any rubbing issues.

OK, thanks. I think I will go with the 215/245 then. I hope this size won't rub in the back too!

General's don't run very narrow. They are similar in width to most other tire brands. Stick to Toyo or Falken if you are going 255's. 245's will not rub so get which ever tire you want.

Check this out. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mparison_tests

It is helping my next decision on tires when I swap to a different set of wheels with better offsets, so I could run 275's.

The Hankook's look nice..

Hope this helped

My Toyo T1r 255/30 rears do not rub at all vs my Hankook (104's?) that were 245/35 and rubbed with passengers, etc. Tire brand makes a huge difference. It's practically to the point that some manufacturers just don't measure the same. Nexxen's are a cheap tire that run small btw.

This helps a lot...thanks! So do you think 215/35/19 and 245/30/19 would be the right size? Or, I could go with 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 if I go with a narrow tire like Falken or Toyos.

i have a lot of friends running generals and they stretch nicely from what ive seen on their carss, my buddy is even running a 285 in a 12.5 in rim

def go for a 225/35 in the front, for the rear a 255/30 is ok as long as you roll your fenders and you get a tire w/ nice round sidewalls

That's good to know about the generals. Since it's a leased car, I don't really want to mess with fender rolling. Therefore, I might just go with a 215 and 245 just to be safe!

Narrow 255's like the FK452's or T1R's should work fine. If you rather stay on the safe side, go for the 245's in those 2 tires.

Thanks Charles for the info. So would the proper tire size be the following?

215/35/19
245/30/19

Tire Rack carries the Yokohamas S. drive in these sizes, however, they only have the Generals in a 245/35/19. Would it be ok to have a 35 series tire on the front and the rear or is it best to have a 35 on the front and a 30 on the rear? Also, it looks like Tire Rack doesn't carry Falkens or Toyos.

Thats the correct sizing you want.
I am running 255's and i rub on big bumps or when i have 2 ppl in the back.
245's are perfect imo.
