I'm 99% sure that map 5 isn't good for 91 octane, but Terry said a long time ago that 93 octane is alright with it. Though the difference between map 3 and map 5 is only about 10-15 whp and ft/lbs from a random post I read a while ago.

I'm on Map 7 with full bolt-ons and 91 Octane with <60 weather.
When it gets too hot here, I usually drop it down to map 5. When it's below 35ºF I usually go to map 1 with my boost hitting a nice 17psi. Timing is perfect too, no worries there. (Meth off) If you aren't running upgrade intercooler or downpipes, I would not suggest going over Map 3 with temperatures above 60ºF. I don't know much about cars though. P.S. It doesn't hurt to add meth to the mix.

I was doing fine until this summer, my son bought an EVO X which we have been modding and this feed my mod needs. In the fall, I went and dyno'ed at a Bimmerfest which I pulled 302 whp and another 135i w/ JB3, downpipes, catback and intake pulled 375 whp. Now its Xmas and everyone in the family gave me $ to buy my son gifts - intercooler, 3 port boost controller, intake, gauges, .......... How much can a guy take! I can't sit there Xmas day and see one great bolt-on present being opened after another and none of it goes on my car! At the same time with the JB4 coming out, a used JB3 can be picked up cheap. The JB+ priced right will sell in one day. And this gets me ready for downpipes. So there you have it - the naked truth.

Your situation's fully understandable. I don't think I'd be able to resist either, in that situation. Every time I say "okay that's enough for now" something happens or I read something that makes me want to blow even more money. I'm thinking of upgrading to JB3/4 next spring (no use for it in the winter really) so if (when) you end up making the jump, post a comparison, I'd be really interested in reading. Also, congrats to your son!

I'm just lining myself up for a FMIC and downpipes. The EVO for MOD'ers is pure heroin. Tons of bolt-on options. The ECU is wide open. AND no BMW tax.

94 is available where i am, so it's usually in the car
I ran Map 7 once for about 20 minutes with just the DCI intake.... was the best 20 minutes of my life.... however, i did worry about hurting the car, so i put it back down to Map 5. Mind you, i have an intercooler and downpipes sitting in my living room now, so it's a matter of time before i'm back on Map 7..... or JB4, possibly procede in the future, time will tell. Just food for thought.... map 0 has been the best highway mileage in my car, so i usually only have the maps activated in the city and i save about 1-2 l/100kms on the highway being in map 0 or a difference on the highway of about 30mpg to 35mpg (when being a stupidly conservative driver.... otherwise, don't expect to see these numbers....) |
