I like to live by the words of Gordon Gecko, greed is good.

Will update when the suspension is in. I tried to promise myself I wouldn't change the suspension in this car but there are some glaring faults with the stock set up so I thought this was a good compromise.

Just got an account with shipito - hopefully they are good!

For small goods - do people normally buy a lot of things and ship it in one ago to make it worth while?

or they just get it freight forwarded straight away.

Just had my first experience with shipito and it was really good!

Consolidated 5 packages and shipped with DHL Express, shipped on wednesday and arrived this morning.

Packages was very well packed, no way things would get damaged in there and price was a lot cheaper vs sending all those items individually from each vendors.

Hey, did you upload all your personal details to make the 65%

ID #1 (driver license, passport, etc.) +15%
ID #2 (has to be different from ID #1) +15%
Utility Bills (with your billing address) +30%
FORM 1583 (notarized by public notary, needs to be sent by postal service) +40%
FORM 1583 (signed by you) +10%

I'm just a bit curious as to why they require this to forward packages.

How did you go with tax though? Are they all under $1000?

Just had a read through this thread, some good stuff and lessons learnt there.

Hypothetically, what would apply if one was to buy something off a fellow forum member in the US that is a)USED and b)it cost well over $1000?

Any ideas/experience?

My understanding is it's based on value. So, declare it as gift and put the value under the threshold ?

I got the BMW performance suspension from United BMW. Was $1275. I just filled in the form myself and got an invoice 2 days later for $267. Not that happy as I have bought more expensive stuff from overseas before and not gotten stopped.
Wtf? 21% thats an exorbitant ripoff!!!

21% tax for nothing, nothing at all.. 10% GST i could understand, but not another 11% for someone to go 'yep that's over a grand!'

Then count yourself lucky! If it helps you sleep better spread the 200 over all the free shipments still a shit load cheaper than buying locally?

So, the concensus, or lack thereof, would indicate that customs will still want some cash, bugger!

So, how safe is it to underdeclare an item to avoid the tax hit? Of course, if the item goes missing, you only get what you declared it for. But any other penalties?

Hi dh58 which Sales Rep from Tirerack did you get the quote from?

Got a quote from Tucker back in November and he was saying they no longer ship Michelins to AUS. Only brands they can do are Goodyear, Dunlop, Sumitomo and Kumho.

Add GST to that and it's similar to the price from Vans?

Hey guys,

I received a quote for the shipping for 1 pallet of car parts (M3 rear end) and was wondering if anyone could shed light on the following. This is the Australia freight quote.

Quote:
Port Charge AUD 85.00 per cbm (or part thereof)
Terminal Handling AUD 25.00 per cbm (or part thereof)
Import Document Fee AUD 55.00
Delivery Order AUD 60.00
Sea Cargo AUD 20.00
FCMR AUD 35.00
Customs Clearance AUD 125.00
Electronic Entry Fee AUD 70.00 (Govt Fee)

Providing standard vehicle for delivery, the cost is AUD 75.00 plus 11.5% fuel surcharge.
All up it's at AUD$550 + GST without taking into account if my package is over 1cbm. FYI the UK portion of it is about GBP215 (~AUD$330). All up probably looking at around $1000 shipped as long as I don't have to pay any additional GST/customs fees.

As the value of the goods is less than $1000 (I have it delcared it GBP450), I'm assuming I shouldn't be stung with any extra GST but I'm still a little confused about it all.

Is there any way to avoid those fees at all? i.e. pick up from port rather than door to door etc

Alex
