This may seem strange that a UK 325i owner cares about this as we have a different 325 engine over here, but bear with me...

Both the US and Canadian BMW websites show that the 325i you guys get has a detuned 3.0 litre engine with 215hp - we all knew that, so no big deal there. However, look at the performance specs shown on the BMW websites and you will see this:

US 325i - 0-60mph 6.7secs
CA 325i - 0-62mph 7.1secs
UK 325i - 0-62mph 7.0secs

If the US and CA 325i's have the same engine, how come the acceleration times are different? Surely accelerating an extra 2mph can't take 0.4 seconds extra?

If it does, then I would actually be quite pleased because then by those times my UK spec 325i would get from 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds - awesome! :rocks:

The UK 325 has a 2.5l engine, not the detuned 3.0l, so it's normal if there are differences. As for the US vs CDN 325i, beside the fact that one lists a time from 0-60 and the other from 0-62 (Maybe they included an additional gear change for that 2mph difference... ), that's very confusing. It could have something to do with the standard equipment differences (CDN cars come with part of the winter package, namely heated seats and the split-folding rear seat with ski pass-through, but not the headlight washers).

Looking at the unladen vehicle weights, there is a difference between the standard spec cars (manual):

US 325i - 3285 pounds = 1490kg 0-60mph: 6.7s
CA 325i - 1490kg 0-62mph: 7.1s
UK 325i - 1505kg 0-62mph: 7.0s

Based on the above figures, the heavier UK car seems to provide a greater power:weight ratio, assuming the US car has a similar 0-62mph time.

It still doesn't answer your question, however!

Interesting, I never knew the UK 325 is 15kg heavier.

I wonder if that's because we get 17" wheels as standard instead of 16s?

The cars are identical, except for the speedometer. The standard equipment and option lists differ a little though.

I think you'll find most of the difference is very much the extra 2 mph... the car is running out of revs at that speed in second...

And my 1/10 of a second slow Canadian model goes like stink when I push the DTC button and stomp on the accelerator in S mode or M mode.....it's only 2 seconds slower than most $150,000 cars, so what do I care? It took me a lot more than 2 seconds to type this post.

62mph for CA and UK is becuase they use the metric system and typically quote performance numbers in 0-100kmh. Doing the math 100kmh is 62mph.

Now...if you assume the acceleration is linear (which I'm sure it is not), the USA 325i would hit 62mph in 6.93 seconds. Since I doubt it is linear, I'd say everything is basically the same. Any slight differences are probably a result of the UK engine and/or CA emission standards being less restrictive than the US.
