I can see where he is coming from but you can't say it's not an effective way of tuning when that has been proven wrong. Terry even supports the free flash tunes that are "real" tunes by this guys book along with Single turbo and RB stuff

If we were still talking about the old JB+ or SSTT type "chips" I would totally agree as well. The integration with the latest ISO board especially with flash stacking is phenomenal though and really brings out the best of both worlds while avoiding the downs. Just not even in the same ballpark anymore.

Whatever man they engineered it better then right? Legacy! Dinan magic .

Jk its just a boost controller lying to the car and anyone using it is just leasing it.

Re-direct away.

I know what is present inside a ECU... and what piggy's tries to control. There about 50 missing hooks in a piggy. When you don't have all the hooks in the engine, you can only play with a few... and lie about them to the actual ECU. There are actual books written about this...
Well not quite. Not all parameters have to be redefined outright as some are adaptive based other modified values but you are also missing out on the fact the JB system has evolved considerably over many iterations with that advent of ISO and recently the optional supporting back end flash should one choose to use it to achieve greater power and consistency.

I'm not saying the advantages of an ECU flash are intangible, but they are most certainly not essential to making power reliably due to the inbuilt adaption functions of the stock ECU and the JB acting as a secondary ECU with its own "checks and balances"

Now, what you are trying to say is "SO what" it works. And I tend to agree with you, but not without harm and unseen issues. If you were to race in a 24h endurance race, would you want a Juice Box piggy.. or an actual engine-dynometered prepped tune..?
Ah there's that IF/Straw man argument again. You still have yet to define the claimed harm and unseen issues you keep carrying on about. Kindly explain to us what about your theoretical endurance race you believe exposes the flaws of a piggyback unit or Cobb tune. Until you do you have no solid argument that is addressable.

I actually happen to agree with you to a point though. If I was building a car for an endurance or any other hardcore track application I wouldn't be looking at a JB or Dinan since neither one is intended for that use. The fact that you infer that Dinan is somehow more track ready and that hardcore track use equates in terms of requirements for fast street/the odd track day use (which is what 99% of us do) is what is really laughable to me

Thats just for the leasers CLEARLY. The real dinan flash tune for REAL RACERS and REAL CAR GUYS will come out later I'm sure

I wonder how much those dinan "boost controller that just lie to the ecu" cost. Should be right around $500 right? Since thats all piggybacks are. Boost controllers without any engineering.

$2500 for their M4 piggyback.

Curious to see how many features dinan was unable to implement in their piggybacks. SURELY they have meth support, on the fly map changing, emissions code removal, nitrous support, boost limiting for 1st and 2nd gear, logging ability, etc right? I mean if not how come?? Why can't they keep up when we are comparing apples to apples at this point?

I see they have the 80 WHP dinan badge. A REAL performance company is one that makes you earn the right (by overpaying) to buy their badges to rice up your car.

Once again, another straw man... the point isn't what the JB is capable of, it is what it isn't. How it is engineered and how it is tested (using the publics cars).

He doesn't race his product, because it isn't engineered for durability and long term safety, nor does the JB do what most suggest. Terry himself doesn't make the claims most JB owner make.

Ask him... I did & the answer I got was "It is.. what it is.."

Secondly, even Steve Dinan will tell you that his new Piggy isn't as good as an ECU tune. So WTF gives...

Most believe if they have a JB, they don't even need an ECU... right?
The Juice Box is better, because it is less expensive and they can own it... right?

But to ignorantly claim JB's development is equal to Dinan's, is laughable.

A local independent repair shop tells me he can rebuild the stock unit for about $800 including R&R.

Yesterday I saw a beautiful rainbow, and today the market is down a 1,000 points! Oh the horror!

Wait, another Dinan loving article. This one from jalopnik.... and I quote,

"Hop on eBay or any BMW forum and you'll see dozens of cheap hacks that raise boost pressure on the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 (S63B44Tü for you code nerds). The problem is when the boost is raised, the factory computer freaks out, tripping over itself to correct the fuel mixture, ignition timing, and a host of other parameters. Eventually the angry engine starts throwing codes. At best power is lost. At worst, the $299 black box from BestBMWTUNRES just voided your warranty and broke some very expensive things."

geez... how many of these articles and/or videos are out there?

This thread should be removed or locked. Also, this post with this M5 with over 600 hp, big deal. My Mustang GT has 600 HP, so what? Anyone can achieve numbers like that with a V8 a SC and some bolt on's. This video is a advertising joke IMHO...
