Key Fob Question
Can you guys tell me the pros and cons of inserting the fob into the dash? If the car can be started with it in my pocket, why bother to ever insert it? Are there any differences or pros or cons one way or the other?
Thanks. |

Sooner or later the Battery in the fob will die, so.... you need to insert the "FOBS " from time to time to let the battery in the fob CHARGE! I am going to insert each of the two fobs at least once a month on longer rides to ensure the batteries don't crap out on me!
I hope this answers your questions!

Actually, the Comfort Access remotes don't have rechargeable batteries. I don't know of any advantage to inserting your fob in the ignition if you have CA. Okay, maybe one... it's a good spot to place it when you're about to hand the car over to a valet, so they'll know where to find it & to make sure you don't take it with you.

Ok not trying to thread jack but here are a few examples...anytime the garage is wet, we ebrake around corners, if theres a truck ive seen guys get out of the truck as its going up the ramp and get in the bed of the truck and "surf" in the back as it idles up the garage...people speed...people tend to sit in the cars for 45+ min if they can get away with it and sit there and listen to the radio, talk on the phone, and have the A/C on full blast if its summer time...ive seen people race, turn stereo up so loud i could almost say it would blow a speaker, look through personal belongings...I remember one time a valet attendant sat in the back of a navigator and nearly ate all their food in the back while he drank a beer. And to top it off, I knew guys that would take pills and break the pills up on peoples center consoles and snort them or whatever! I personally have NEVER done anything near as bad as these maybe just like switch radio stations or move seats which is prohibited as well...I have a huge respect for cars and would hate to have something like that done to my 1. But think about it next time you valet your car and it goes into a huge garage or something out of sight. The horseshoe im currently at doesnt do any of this but the casino i previously worked at did because there are no cameras except for the bottom floor. But those are a few examples...I'm sure elsewhere there have been similar and far worse examples of what happens in valet...

I pay the valet to watch my car.
I go have breakfast every Monday at a 5 star hotel, and I'm there for less than an hour, and they are very happy to watch it, and let me park up front for a simple 5 spot. Hell I have tipped the valet more than my servers on average. LOL

Okay, so the wording is slightly ambiguous, but the manual very strongly implies that the CA remote (called Convenient Access in the manual) is not rechargeable. I've also heard this elsewhere previously, but I can't cite the source. Anyhow, here's what it says fwiw:

Never, ever, ever ever ever ever valet your car.
I used to do that back in college between semesters, like Nicholas Cage said "I didn't do it for the money, I did it for the cars."

thread hi jack!!!
I valeted at a very nice hotel in college and did all sorts of things, but only to rental cars....never buy one of those. Once however, one of the guys took a porsche 930 out for a test drive and was gone over an hour. turned out he got a ticket for speeding and used some excuse that he was taking the car out to get it washed for the owner.... |
