Balance Winter Wheels and Tires

Do I need to have my wheels balance again just to reinstall my winter set? The dealer said I should but I don't think I need to.

I don't think you need to. I haven't done that. Maybe it's good to do so, but I've never gone out of my way for a rebalance.

you should be ok mounting them as-is if they were in balance when you took them off last spring

I ran the same winter set for 5 seasons on the original tires (mounted and balanced by tirerack) and they were fine until worn out

Your winter tires are on their own wheels right? If so, no, you don't need to rebalance assuming they were in balance when you took them off.

If you are swapping your winter tires onto your summer rims, then yes they should be balanced, but I think that is standard procedure after installing tires.

Assuming they are on separate wheels:

Put them on and take it the to freeway and up to 80 mph. They will tell you if they need balancing. Most likely not.

Just put my winter set on yesterday. No need to rebalance. Just adjusted air pressure and reset the TPMS in the car and good to go. What a nightmare day doing this though. The wheel lock key broke and had to pay BMW 30 minutes to tap the lug and remove it because the threads in the lug got stripped when the key broke. I am never ever ever using BMW wheel locks ever again!!!

I hate tire vibrations. And dynamic imbalances are strongest at about 120 km/hr, which is my normal cruising speed. My tires get balanced every time I swap them or rotate them.

I don't use separate winter wheels/tires on my 135i but I have on other cars and never had them re-balanced and they worked fine over several seasons.

I would put them on and if you don't notice anything negative going on then just leave them alone. If you're getting vibrations or something then get them rebalanced.

If you haven't noticed any vibrations from prior use, I don't see why you would need to rebalance them. That being said, if you did see a large amount of wear, or if you did experience vibrations, then yes, rebalance them.
