Windsheild constantly dirty on the inside?
Ok, I've had the car about 3 months now, and I've had to clean the windsheild about half a dozen times. I've used every method I know of to clean it, and it's dirty again a few days later.
I've done newspaper, auto glass cleaner, a little water......everything! It's clean when I finish, and then a couple of days later it's in horrible shape again. There's never been anyone smoking in the car and I just don't get it. Could it be coming from the HVAC system? Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me? |

Is it fogging up? I'm having issues with streaks of fogging on mine coming up from the bottom of the windshield. I was told by a friend with a 328 that he had that issues with and it was caused by his sun shield. He switched to the BMW one and that went away. Mine fits badly, and it seems related, but I don't understand why.

Off gassing of the new interior parts you mean? Yes, it's a foggy build up, and seems to be worst in the center of the windsheild, but it's also shows up on the other windows, just not nearly as fast. |

Yes, foggy streaks in places, but also on the rest of the windshield. I don't use a sunshield at all FWIW. |

hmmm
i did 'windex's windshield cleaner wipes' that have anti-fog in them, but i regretted it once i did and got a micro-fiber and tried to wipe it off immediately. but i only notice the fog and the bottom of the windshield now, so i guess it did work to an extent |

Griots Garage Glass Cleaner and a 100% cotton rag. Mine stays clean for at least 2 weeks.

It's probably the outgassing of the plasticizers in the PVC (polyvinyl chloride) dashboard. Also there are vinyl esters in the car that outgas.
Scroll down and read article 16)... http://washington.chenw.org/bulletin...n11-22-06.html My recommendation: Keep a 12" x 12" microfiber cloth (available at Pep Boys or Auto Zone) in your car. Lightly rub the windshield to easily remove the residue. |

I'm thinking you're probably right. I'm just surprised it's gone on this long. Maybe the summer heat brings it out more, and I'm about done with it. It's a huge PITA. I cleaned it last week and right now it's so dirty I can barely stand it at night. |

The softer, nicer the dash and door panels feel = more toxic plasticizers used that will outgas and create nasty residue/film on your windshield. Be glad most of it settles on your windshield and not in your lungs. It's more difficult to wipe those chemicals from the inside of your lungs.

My recommendation for clean winshields and clean lungs is this: 1) Buy a microfiber cloth; wipe down your windshield (no chemical sprays or solvents needed). 2) Drive a twisty mountain road up to 6000' altitude or higher (alpine forests are preferable). If you live at sea level, find the nearest forest. 3) Open your windows/sunroof and breathe in the clean, oxygenated air for at least 6 hours. 4) Smile. 5) Repeat at least once per month. |
