Hi!
How's the engine feel, (compared to the normal one turbo engine)?

"Not only is it staggeringly fast flat out in a straight line, but the mid-range also feels devastatingly quick. Its two turbos combine to provide such an incredible level of grunt that, when accelerating hard, you have to be quick with the gearchanges to avoid hitting the rev limiter. "
This gives a bit more evidence for a pet theory of mine. I think the 0-62 MPH time of 7.0 seconds for the 123d makes it seem artificially slower than it really is. That's because I think 0-62 includes TWO gear shifts. There are a lot of cars that can do their 0-60 with just one shift from 1st to 2nd, so they get a nicer 0-60 time than a car that has to shift from 1st to 2nd, then again from 2nd to 3rd. So Car1 might do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds with 1 gear shift, but 0-70 takes 7.5 seconds because Car1 needs another gear shift at 65 that takes it out of it's powerband. Now Car2 might do 0-60 in 7.0 seconds with 2 gear shifts, but it is right in the middle of it's powerband from 60-70 and it also does 0-70 in 7.5 seconds. (I'm just using the numbers as examples - it's not real data) That puts a different perspective on how fast each car is. Is there anyone from Europe poking around this board who has driven a 123d that can tell us if 0-62 requires 2 gear changes? Dinger? |
