Another Angel Eye Option, no AHL failures!

Hi all,

I'd like to share another angel eye for those afraid of adaptive headlight failures with the typical LED/resistor pack/ballast setup getting in the way. With this setup, I have GP Thunder 7500K ($15) with coding to increase the voltage.

For those familiar with coding, you'll need to edit the NETTODAT and set PWM_SL_1_FKT_BL_TFL and PWM_SL_1_FKT_SL_TFL to a new custom parameter of "0C,2C" in the NFRM module, then recode. The coding increases the voltage of the H8 bulbs to 13.7V, so well within standard operating conditions. If anyone needs help, post here or PM me.

I believe at dim when the headlights are on they're at ~10v, or just shy of that. You'll need a normal coding setup, so Inpa, NCS Expert, and NCS Dummy.

What happens if you used the 4800k Precious White Piia's like in this thread and also did the coding?

I did a quick search for "inpa NCS Expert" on google, but did not seem to find a simple starting point or howto. And many articles said this worked on models up to 2007 and I have a 2011.

This coding, can it be done by someone reasonably competent with computers with a laptop and USB to OBD cable? Is there an FAQ for coding the e82? I'd love to do this myself and not have to go to the dealer.

Well considering his car is a 2011, I'd say it definitely worked on a model older than 2007.

I would be interested in a blow by blow on whats specifically needed here. Looks GREAT!

Also second the thought of using the PIAA bulbs with this coding change. Should result in a huge increase in brightness.

Just keep an eye on the rings make sure they dont yellow at all. Running the angel eyes at full power will create a lot more heat in there, more than its designed for.

What is it designed for? Let's take a look at the material spec data before making assumptions. It may yellow in the long run, but the people who've been running this setup long before me have not had issues. As always, mod at your own risk

Can you just use those bulbs without the coding change? Would it still give a whiter color than stock even though they wouldn't be any brighter?

Dunno why you would want to, those bulbs are hard to see in daylight as are any white bulb.

Well I'm good with the brightness of the stock halos... would the white ones not be as bright as the stock ones?

The second pic in the first post is of the 7500K GP Thunders at stock settings in my garage with all the fluorescent lighting on, so that should give you a good idea of how it'll look color-wise. It's definitely more "white" and less yellow, and because of the "more white" color, it's less visible in daylight....until you increase the voltage to them. I'm still working on getting a day time pic, haven't driven the car in a while.

Ok after performing this mod 6 months ago and suffering intermittent HID blinks when cold...the weather turned cold again. I now had no HID (Factory 135i).

Much coding ensues trying to get back to stock...thinking it might be the issue, before placing an order for new bulbs and ballasts - I need headlights!

Found this gem in another forum:
RESET MODULE TO STOCK

1. Load NCSExpert.
2. Load Profile and select Expertmode
3. F1 (VIN/ZCS/FA)
4. F3 (ZCS/FA f .ECU)
5. Choose E89 (for the E9X)
6. Select NFRM
7. F6 (BACK)
8. F4 (Process ECU)
9. Select the Module I want to Revert back to Stock.
10. F2->Choose "SG_Codieren->ok
11. F3->to start coding the ecu with factory settings according to the vehicle VO.

Reset to factory specs - Viola! Headlights work again!

I am a big newb on coding so I evidently did something wrong 6 months ago...just want to let you all know you can come back from it, even if you never saved your stock nettodat file.

Or you can just use bmwhats app and push the "code" button like i did and it does everything for you in 10 seconds lol
