It will end up like the Z4MC!
Given what I payed for mine with 5k miles on it, I'm not sure if that's an entirely bad thing, heh.

They'd probably be better off pricing it appropriately from the start. Too many BMW buyers see a bigger car as an "upgrade". The 135 is cheaper than the 335, even though it's a better performer, for this reason.

Not a bad thing at all for you, but it will be forever be a loss for BMW, and I just hope they have learned something along the way.

Same here. As lovely as the M3 is, it's way too large for me, ditto for the rest of the larger M series. Can't wait for the 1 series M, hope BMW doesn't go crazy with the price.

You guys wouldn't believe the M3 deals right now. Plus you can get 1.9% for 60 months on an M3 this month.

Invoice or lower. On par with asking price for a 335is, basically.

"One competitor which will also follow BMW with the 1M late in it's cycle will be the Audi RS3 expected next year as a similar run out model. It will possibly have more power and straightline speed and advantage of AWD. But given the poor repuation of the A3 to drive? dont expect dynamics and handling to be anywhere near the 1M."

RS3 Will possibly have more straightline power? If you know this 1 year prior..why can't they make the 1M just as powerful with the addition of better dynamics and handling? With so many people running jb3's etc... straightline and 1/4 mile runs obviously matters to them...what we want is best of both world's ..Make it as quick or quicker than the new 5.0 and handle like an M3 and I will buy 1..... We don't all live by an autobahn, some of us live by the 1/4. 4.3/12.6 NUFF SAID.

The reason is the same reason why Porsche doesn't make a Cayman faster than a 911. They can and it would be a better car but it screws up the whole range.

1M can't be faster than an M3 for less money. M3 is the king of the M line-up and BMW won't change that.

Off topic but I wish Ford would take a compact or mid-sized Euro platform and stuff the 5.0 in it with a nice AWD and LSD's or slap the GT500's unit in it. That would be beastly.

I want them to put the echo boost V 6 in the stang with a few performance options, and bring back the SVO badge for it. Ford does not have an incentive to expand the car range at the moment. They are selling cars at sticker now, and are making money as a corporation. To much expansion in the product line will eat up the market and cause fords to compete aginst fords and that is bad for business. Shelby is bringing back the GT 350, and those cars will be expensive and rare... Sorry for the rant.

I agree that the 1M can't be faster than a M3, stock to stock. I am curious if the benchmark used for this will be the F9X or F2x M3???

Hence..another problem BMW will have.If the rumors of pricing for the 1M are true, you will be able to buy a 09 M3 and have left over for some beer. The m3 is fast....correction was considered fast...for 08/...they need to bring it up a notch more...

For that kind of money for product development I would prefer ford to bring back a top of the range Ferrari killing supercar a la ford GT

There is nothing wrong with the M3's speed. 4.1 to 60mph and 12.5 in the quarter is nothing to scoff at even in 2010. N54 powered cars with just tunes still get beaten straight to 150mph in an all out race and cant beat a M-DCT from a roll.

The 1M will pounce the M3 in midrange with out a doubt. Accel times will be a tick slower. So maybe 4.3sec vs 12.7?

I think BMW is waiting for the F3X series M3 to really raise the game on that car. New motor, lighter, more technology... it "should" kill/destroy/outperform the E 9X M3 when tit appears in after the intro of the E82 1M.
