And we may be looking at an even shorter production run for the 1M. BMW may just have their numbers dead on.
That 1,800 number seems to be pretty common. for US totals of the E86 M, with a smaller number of non-M coupes made. Someone asked BMW's Spartanburg facility how many total Z4 M Coupes were made and got this answer:

Lifetime production of the Z4 M Coupe at BMW Manufacturing was about
4,500 vehicles.

There were roughly 6,000 total Z3 M Coupes made, so perhaps the rumored 2,500 1M Coupe number is slightly less than either of those, depending on how many years it will be available. But either way, I wouldn't worry about rushing to your dealer, there should be plenty for everyone, and markups will be short lived if anyone attempts one.

We've been saying the 1M will be VERY limited on BimmerFile for quite some time now. We've heard from many sources over the past year and no one has said any different. I've said it many times and I'll say it again... think JCW GP.

But what if there aren't many options vailable? No nav, premium pack, etc - that would keep prices down and also be consistent with the "pure" ideal BMW is apparently aiming at with this car. And it would force a certain demographic - buyers interested in luxury options, or high-tech options such as DCT or HUD, to shop elsewhere in the BMW lineup.

+1. Although heated seats would be nice because these German winters are a bit rough. Or, to eliminate that need and cut the cost a bit more, they could just give us the cloth/leather combo seats from the M3.

In a way I hope your right. If people react like they did with the GP then they may pass on this....6MT only, no lux, raw feeling, etc....
That might give more people the opportunity to find one

This point was brought up with SCOTT a while back, and he basically said this wouldn't be an option, at least in the US market.

He stated, quite accurately, that BMW is seen as a luxury brand in the US, and that things like no A/C and roll up windows will never be seen in a US-bound BMW.

There are also rumors out there that this same logic is the reason the US doesn't see all of the models available in Europe, where the brand isn't as "luxury" based....
