Whistling noise - please help!
I first noticed a whistling noise about a week after buying my car initially only could only hear it at about 70mph onwards however it's now noticeable from about 50mph. Appears to be coming from the centre air vent in dash although I'm not sure! Anyone had anything similar or could offer some advice on how to cure this as it's driving me nuts! Thanks in advance!

Never heard of this problem. Had a couple guesses as to what it might be for a 135i, but you have a 12xd, no clue.

May not necessary be drivetrain related. This sounds odd, but make sure that your side-view mirror housings are clean from debris. Wind passing over the mirrors (especially at highway speeds) can create disturbances that make high-pitched whistling noises.
Nextly, I would suggest getting a roll of painters tape and start taping rubber gaskets along the outside of the vehicle (possibly the windshield molding). Tape a new area, then road test. Repeat until you find the cause. This is all assuming it isn't engine/drivetrain related.

Ah, great idea on the taping gaskets outside the car.

I have this noise when the AC is not set to recirculate. see if it goes away when you manually set it to recirculate.
I think it is coming from an improper install of the shroud that holds the cabin air filters letting air bypass the filters and causing the noise, but I haven't had time to check it out yet. |

Are you sure its not from your door seals? B-pillar ? But they usually make noise at much higher speeds. Unless your door/window is way out of whack.
