European Delivery License Plate vs. CA Plate

I received my California plates in the mail today, so it was time for the temporary Euro plate to come off. After taking off the ED plate, my CA plate will not fit. Did my dealer not do some necessary prep? Did BMW give me a Euro spec trunk?

I have attached pictures and am looking for your help.

Also, my dealer forgot to smog the car when I got back to the states and forgot to do the vin verification form, so I got this frantic phone call from my sales rep in early January about needing my car right away to meet those requirements. I gave it to them so I could get a software update, but it delayed my CA plates for several months. Also, I just got a letter saying they underestimated the license fees, so I need to send them a check for the difference. I loved my ED trip and the car, but have not been impressed with this dealer. I will do ED again, but will seriously consider a new dealer.

Hmmm I didn't need a smog on my car.

I think the problem with your plate is that the dealer didn't get to prep, so you don't even have the dealer advertising lic. frame. For them to put the dealer plate on, they would have had to install the lic. bracket first.

BTW why is your registration only good until Aug. 06?
When did you take re-delivery?

I found the frame in the hole in the trunk. I just don't have any screws that small? Any suggestion on screw size.

I ordered my car in June, Signed the paperwork in August (hence the Aug reg date), took delivery in Munich in September, and have had my redelivery since Oct 31. Just now jot my plates because of the dealer screw up.

I don't know what size the screws are. You might want to take another look like in the glove box or in the trunk where the tools are. The screws are in a small plastic bag. If you can't find em I am sure your dealer would square you away.

LOL...Yeah that's the bugger. I know you hated having to take off those ED plates...I am going to try and keep my European plates on as long as possible when I move back to the US.

Your dealer sc*ewed you over for 2-mths of registration that's probably why they're asking for the additional $.
They shouldn't have submitted the registration until the day you took re-delivery. It appears that they submitted it when you did the paperwork prior to your ED.

My Finance Guy specifically told me that I pay for the registration when I do the paperwork, but he doesn't submit the actual docs until the day I take re-delivery. I took re-delivery on 1/14/06, and my tags are good until 1/16/07.

They would have given you the bag of screws in Munich. The bag also has the color stickers for differentiating the key fobs.

Yeah, I never got the screws or the stickers you are mentioning. I have a call into the dealer to get a breakdown of the fees so that I can dispute the additional charge on fees.
