Unfortunately, no updates since the LSD install a few months ago. I've been so busy that I haven't even gotten the 1000 mile LSD break-in completed yet! Ugh...

Shit, I have all the parts for the 1M front conversion coming and this is the first I have heard of the 1M sideskirts that I have coming not bolting up to the rear.

How bad was the gap?

20h to graft the stockers with the new? really?

I got the bumper / fenders/ skirts / markers from ECS for 1200$, was hoping to just bolt them on.

The difference is very significant/noticeable. The rear quarters on the 1m are obviously much wider and the sideskirts have to fit that

Don't forget to change the gear oil when your break-in is done.

Sorry guys, I was at the track this past weekend. LSD and AFe were awesome! I *so* need Hankook or Hoosiers slicks and front brake cooling ducts/setup!

HP Autosport - Yep, thanks.

P90Puma - just to be clear, the 1M side skirts do bolt/secure to the 135 no problem, its the rear alignment that is off -- sticks out too far ~ half inch to an inch if I recall correctly as Curare86 said due to the1M rear quarters being wider than the 135's down low there. I would think that if you did want to tackle the 1M rear conversion then you have two options.

1. Do like I did and have a shop graft the 1M front side skirt to your stock 135 side skirt.

or

2. Have a shop see if they can blend it. ???

Eventually, I will be tackling the 1M rear conversion and eventually my grafted 135/1M side skirts will be for sale, but that won't be for some time yet (need to save up for that project). Also, you may already have it but just didn't say, but you will need a 1M windshield washer fluid blatter as there is a clearance issue with the stock 135 blatter and we weren't able to get the 1M side marker to secure. Because I didn't know this at the time we had to use a heat gun to reshape the stock 135 blatter to get the 1M side marker to secure. Moreover, since I got the 1M front bumper without the cutouts for the headlight washers (I hated them), I removed that motor/pump and all of that tubing. My fabricator made me a billet aluminum with rubber grommet "stopper" to plug that hole in the blatter. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

A buddy of mine did the 1M front swap and used his 135i skirts. In the front where the 1M fenders jut out, you can tell that the sideskirts don't stick out as far(width wise), but it's honestly not very noticeable. He didn't want to have to graft the 2 different side skirts together either.

Borrowed a picture of his. Red circle shows where the fenders stick out a tad more than the sideskirts. Maybe half an inch or so.

Glad to see more people converting 1M parts on their 1s.

that gap would bug the hell out of me, though.

Thank you very much, I believe I wasted my $$$ buying 1M side skirts based on looking at this picture.

If you could get some more pictures that would be great but that gap looks like basically nothing and not worth the frustration of grafting skirts together.

Did he reuse the majority of the 135i front end parts? I find it hard to believe some of these lists of having to rebuy a ton of front end parts.

I agree 100% with Venom. That gap will be noticeable from 30+ feet and would bug the hell out of me. I mean this is a BMW, but your car so suit yourself...

A lot of the parts are simply due to reshaped pieces. Undertray bits on the 1M are proportionately longer to fit under, the ducting bits are shaped differently, though it is funny having both ducts but only 1 oil cooler so I might consider that as my next mod. The snorkel and other associated bits for the windshield wiper fluid reservoir change to match up to the shape of the front fender. I would not skip the guards under the fenders(forgot the name). I would say 100% of the parts are important to get. The only real issue/unused/confusion I ran into was with the battery cables but that was on the rear end of the conversion and has to do with BMW picking/creating a different grounding point on the 1M than on the 135i.

I would follow the guide written by ilikebmxbikes on this matter. all of those items are necessary. feel free to pick and choose when you order but buying em all will save on shipping/etc. be sure to order from one of the great oem parts suppliers we have here on the forums like Reeves, gave us crazy pricing!

I need to reduce my oil temps. My next mod will be an ER oil cooler upgrade kit. Since I have the BMW Performance Power Kit installed (second radiator), I'm going to first see how much ER's single oil cooler upgrade deduces my temps out on the track. That, and I seriously need front brake cooling ducts!...

heres a thought... some kind of molded "mud/splash guard" that hides that gap in the front fender or closes it a little more to avoid the grafting..... just a thought.
