Towbar
Anyone put one on their 1er? Ideally, the ones that dont require cutting up your rear bar, I think I saw one in the UK that kinda had this big U style adapter that mounted up/under the rear bar and presented the towball infront of the bar... Looked good
Can we get em? I suddently have two motorbikes |

I believe that BMW do not have a bar for the 135i and from my research neither do local producers such as Hayman Reese. There is however one made for the car in the US, but due to weight it costs about 4 times more to ship than it costs. It does not meet BMW or ADR approval. When I checked about a year ago it was over a $1200 landed. From memory it was the type you wanted, with the tongue coming from below the bumper.
Maybe put a post in the US section. EDIT: I also remeber that local tow bar people were worried that the necessary wiring would throw the BMW electrics into "a fit" and throw codes. The std bar for the 1 series apparently does not fit due to the coupes rear bumper shape. Having said all of that, the dealer said they have a client with a bar on his 125i. Hmmm...

Haha you idiot. I don't think Kris actually meant he needs to tow both bikes. The reason is more because he bought a track bike. Looks blardy cool and makes me want a track bike. Actually I've always wanted a track bike but Mrs WAY would divorce me if I did. She doesn't even like me riding normal speed on the road let alone on the track.

Timbo: hehe! either did i!
Yep, track bike is what i'll be carrying. Well, I toyed with the ute idea but really the only one I could stomach is a 317kw R8 Maloo but they drink fuel like a 747 so thats out and then id still need to have the tailgate down to hold the bike (completely crap, why design a ute that can only carry a lunchbox and a piece of rope) So, the 1er will stay and Ill need to find a towing solution for it! |

I reckon you'd be much safer riding on the track than on the road! Speeds may be higher but there's much less to hit and the other "road users" are much more aware than the wallys on the street.

Hi Kris
I ordered the car (120D) with a tow bar to be dealer fitted. The fitting, including wiring and computer, cost me $500, I do not remember the exact cost of the kit but a quick call to a dealer will fix this, my 120d does not have led tail lights, the car sends short pulses to check if any globes are blown, the globes do not see these pulses but quick responding leds do, so when the car lights are on, the pulsing is visible in the trailer lights, a major shortcoming BMW addresses by placing heavy current shunts (resistors) across each circuit. I would have fitted the towbar myself but adding to the wiring of a new car might have caused a problem I would prefer the dealer to be responsible for. If I can answer anything else about the towbar, let me know ken |
