application for purchase requires too much information?
I'm trying to buy/order a 2009 135 with cash and the application the CA sent me requests for previous employment history, mortgage information (very detailed), and other detailed information.
Is this information necessary and normal? My parents bought a Lexus recently and did not have to provide the employment history or mortage information. |

If you are paying 100% cash tell them to F*** off with all that info. That is for a loan only. |

Ya, I figure with cash that they don't need that info; however, the CA insists that it's cuz of the U.S. Patriot Act and other laws that require them to have that information before processing the order. He said that it is their standard form that everyone else fills out whether paying cash or financing.
Anyone else have opinions or known facts about this issue? |

Try the "ask a dealer" thread. DB can answer this for you. Use this link.

I didn't give them any of that information.
I'm sure I'm much older so maybe they obtained information about me through a credit check. BUT...... I don't believe there is ANY federal requirement that you give a private company this information for a cash sale. I suspect they just want to make sure you can actually pay for the car before they order it. |

Isn't Patriot Act for Draftees?
If so, you filled out the information for the Patriot Act before you turned 18. They don't need to know your credit situation to order/purchase a car. Hell, my dealer didn't even charge my CC for deposit to place the order. Just a quick photocopy of it.

My CA charged my credit card for the deposit but there was no credit check or anything like that. There was no paperwork on my part either. My CA filled out the order request form and all I had to do was sign the receipt for my deposit. I think if I were in the same situation as you, I would probably skip any parts of the paperwork that I felt were unnecessary.
My guess is that it doesn't have anything to do with the Patriot Act and more has to do with Taxes. They want to make sure that you are getting your cash by legal means and paying the necessary income taxes. I have heard about suspicious people walking into car dealerships with a bag full of cash to buy a car and have been turned back because the dealership suspects them to be drug dealers or something to that effect. |

I paid cash for my previous car, and the dealer was the same way. I think I had to have a credit check anyway, which was fine by me.
I think it something to do with the government checking for suspicious activity. When you purchase or send/receive large amounts of money through transactions such as Western Union, they require you fill out detailed forms about your employment and residential information.

Same thing when you make a large deposit at the bank. I think the limit was $9 or $10k at my bank in Cali. I deposited $12k cash, so i had to fill out extra forms.
