ATTN: Detailers
Hey guys, I've just had a pre-purchase inspection done on a 1 series im looking at and the reports come back with some "minor signs of dirt contamination" in one of the rear quarter panels which the inspector suggests is from the factory paint job as there are no other signs of a repair. The inspection included a paint depth analysis over the whole car.
What are your thoughts? Is this 'normal' for factory paint jobs? Cheers! |

With the paint thickness test, were the readings consistent over the entire car? I'd like to know exactly what "minor dirt contamination" they are referring to. |

Ok, that's good.
Can you find out exactly what they mean with "minor dirt contamination"? If it's just on the surface, it can be removed and basically, it's just a dirty car If it's imperfections within the paint or under the clear coat, then firstly, that is not "minor dirt contamination" and secondly, it may well be a factory defect. If you can find out and let me know, that would be appreciated |

I don't think it's just on the surface but within the paint. Might check with the inspector. Was more wanting to confirm that it isn't totally out of the ordinary for factory paint finishes to be affected?

Thanks! Yeh the inspector said he spent a fair bit of extra time going over the car after spotting the 'minor dirt contamination' to make sure he hadnt missed any other signs of a repair job. So should be all good

Anyway, it doesn't sound like a big problem though if he's already taken readings of depth, etc. |

He had explained it earlier, something about dirt caught during the painting process and that it was likely to be from factory given no other signs of a repair. I'm fairly satisfied now that that's what it is.

Sorry Dont mean to hijack the thread, but since we are on the topic of pre-inspection. Just want to ask for your thoughts? If you are buying a Used car from a BMW dealer that has a Premium selection. Does that mean that it is safe to buy with inspecting for would you still do a pre-inspection test prior to buying?
