At last, something that really works...
In Big W the other day, and I was attracted by one of those in-store video ads, this one for a "Smart Pen" that promised to remove the appearance of scratches and scuffs. Expensive, though at $30, but I had scuffs and scratches on a rear wheel arch for over two years given to me by a 4WD in a supermarket car park. Long story short - it works. You really have to look very closely to see anything. Hopefully I don't need to use it again, but compared to what you would have to pay otherwise to remove light cosmetic defects, worth it. I've wrapped the cap with PVC insulation tape to help prevent it from drying out in the longer term.

Annoying voiceover on the video... Is this the actual product? My local BigW had no knowledge of it, and the ones on EBay are called Smart Pro Pen with similar claims... Would like to see some macro shots of the before and after of your car, this stuff makes it look perfect but I am sure there would be some residual mark or uneven surface effect. Along with a picture of the pen to see if it is the same one. I have a nasty scratch on my boot lid. At $30 it is a small investment that might fill some time for me. (Or $5.49 on Ebay) As it is it will be $500-750 to respray my boot lid anyway... So I don't have much to lose. If I can be sure it is the one you are recommending I might just buy one and share it around the guys in the local BMW club so that it all gets used up instead of drying up in the pen... Is it for any colour? or there are 600 colours to choose from?

Yeah, I know, I forgot the before and after stuff. Sorry. The makers say it's not for deep scratches, but I would say if you scrape your car on dry twigs, or scratch the bumper getting stuff out of the boot, it's really good for that. I would say it's good for the scratches that are just that bit too deep to cut out with a cutting compound.

I saw the advertisment on TV one night and I too was a bit sceptical so I'd like to see this thing in action. From what I see, one pen does all colours. dont know how it works.

I bought one today.
I'll try it out on the weekend and post some before and after shots. My theory on how it works will be refraction. Light will bend in the filling so that you dont see the bottom of the scratch but instead see the side of the scratch (which is effectively the existing paint) I.e. The filling will have a high refractive index.

Have to wait another week.
You have to leave the car for two days in the sun after application... That was nover going to be possible in Brisbane this weekend.

Not that happy
I posted pics on another thread. Seems ok if it is an out of the way spot, but you can see it clearly if it is visible in any glare or reflection. I'm on the iPad so it's not easy to post the other thread link.... The thread is called " magic paint pen" and I just bumped it for you

There's no way it would work on a scratch down to the plastic half a cm wide...

You might want the "touch up guys" instead. THey will hit you about $150-250 to repaint and put a clear coat on. Which is still a lot cheaper than a paint shop.
