Ipod works without the Ipod option!!??

When I ordered my 09 135 it was too late to add the Ipod option due to it going into immediate production. I was kinda bumped because my wife listens to her ipod all the time, I figure I'll get for her and it's nice to have an usb by the arm rest. Later I found out there was a usb in the glove compartment. I was like

it read the drive and uploaded my songs.

Later, I bought an Ipod and wondered if that usb would read it. To my
surprise it did!!!!! I can looked thru the playlist and play the songs...

No special cables, just what came in the box of my ipod 3rd gen shuffle.

Does anyone know this or am I'm just happy newbie that's just reporting everything? Makes me now wonder why I needed spend extra money for the Ipod option?

I do have the Idrive btw.

thats kewl! it must be a new feature with the updated i-Drive, cause I don't have it ('08 with i-Drive). Good find!

Not sure what that is.
Only options I ordered is the Nav, heated seats, and Mpack.
Nothing else.

Read about here, but finally tried it out. IT WORKS!!

I love finding things I didn't know it has.

Until you start moving, then the safety lock overrides.

We just completed a new module that will allow video in motion, we should be releasing this next week.

So it appears as an iPod in iDrive? Or does it just allow you to copy the music from the iPod on the the iDrive hard disk?

I'm gonna have to give this a go after work.

Yea..you can upload or scroll thru the playlist.

I need to take at my buddy's Idrive to see what his shows, he has the ipod option.

Actually, you don't have to start moving. Once you drop the e-brake the picture goes blank. You can still hear the audio, just no video.

How hard is this module to install?

I believe all you guys have one. Wether it works with the Ipod i'm not sure. It's just a usb plug. Check your glove compartment, right upper corner.

I'll still take a pic of it and the idrive showing that it reads the ipod.

Me too. Just got mine today and because of the rarity of the Montego Blue and I don't really want to wait for an order, I got one with Nav but not the iPod USB option. Was still hating when loading the CDs then all of a sudden saw the warning saying that there is a USB port in the glove department, could not believe it but it is there and funcitonal. very very pleased. Then the DVD video of course, too bad the hand brake has to be on to see the video, but I think it can tricked with the hand brake just barely on enough to turn the brake light on without really braking to see the video in motion, but of course try it in your own risk, I would not be watching a video while driving, may only do it for the passengers' sake.

To get to the music do you go to "external devices" or do you have to import them?

I tried plugging my iPhone into the USB port in the glove box. The phone starts charging but nothing comes up in iDrive.

Maybe it's only a US thing?

I'm guessing depending how much songs you have in ur iphone how long it would take to read all the data. It doesn't happen right away, takes some time. Just like if you plug ur usb into it, it take time to read all the songs.
