hbdunn2003, if u import the music then it'll still be there. If u unplug it, u won't read the ipod anymore.

I'll give it a go next time I take the car out (which is not very often in Tokyo) and make sure to leave it plugged in for longer this time. |

2008 was a dvd based nav. The manual indicates that the usb port in the glovebox is for importing only. The reports here seem to contradict that. Pick up mine on Saturday and will be interested in trying this out. |

I tried this last night and it didn't work. The iPod didn't show up. Are you going into the 'External devices' section to find it?
The only way I could get the ipod to play was by using the USB under the arm-rest. But then all the tracks came up with jumbled 4 letter text so you didn't know what was what untill you played it. Then the name of the track would come up above it. |

I wonder if mine will have it. It should be in next week (AW/CR) ZMP & ZZP.

hmmmm...interesting
Please keep posting your findings. I may be ordering soon and forgo the 400 bones if it means I can still access my Ipod through the glovebox
I will not have a nav system in my 135...getting lost IS half the fun! |

hbdunn2003 is correct. All 09 1ers are equipped with the new iDrive (CIC) with internal hard drive. The 08 1ers have the old iDrive (CCC) with DVD-based nav. All 09 1ers with iDrive only have the USB port in the glovebox which is only used for music importation to the iDrive's internal hard drive. If you have the USB Integration for iPod (with Y-Cable) which is located under the armrest and behind the parking brake, you can control your iPod from the iDrive but cannot import music from that port.

So just to clear this up, I'm waiting for my 09 135i which DOES NOT have NAV/iDRIVE or the $400 IPOD option, so there is no chance I will be able to hook up my Ipod. Will I have a USB port under my armrest at all? Will that USB port play my iPod, just without integrating the functions into the car's control panel? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just a bit confused about this. Thanks
