I dont believe withholding a nice vehicle from an 16yr old teaches always teaches them the value of money. 23-24k should be the cap for a 16yr old.

well i'm 23 and I know how it felt like to be bashed for being a young driver back when I was 17 so i am totally supporting you to get that 135i!
As for professional racing school, i think that should come at a later time. The thing is, if soccer moms or trophy wives could handle high powered RWD BMWs, I don't see any reason how this kid couldn't handle it. And I'm sure lot of those moms or trophy wives have never been to driving school before getting in their cars. |

The only problem with your argument is most trophy-wives/soccer-moms drive at 4/10ths and most young men drive at 11/10ths. ; -)
If you are a typical male 'hero-driver', get to a good driving school, it's the best investment you can make. |

I'm in the 'no, it's not a good idea' camp. If you want such a nice car, you should have to pay for it yourself. In a world in which millions of people have to worry about whether they will eat tonight, it's a horrible idea to simply give such an unnecessary luxury to a child as a gift. Be a socially responsible young person, ask for a basic used car, and go work at a soup kitchen for a few weekends. |

They do happen on every forum, but I think they're real. Otherwise we wouldn't see the street racing posts by 17 year-old STI owners over on NASIOC.
Notice that the original poster hasn't checked in. He probably has already justified why he "deserves" a 135i for his birthday, has written us off as old a$$holes, and has put in his request with dad and mom. |
