Need to change my front tire sidewall height.

I am currently running 245/40/18 on a Apex ARC-8 8.5 rim, lowered on KWv1. I have had rub forever and I don't really car if I rub... But I car when the rubbing is to a level of damaging my front 1/4 panels and front bumper.

I just got a new 1M bumper and the damage repaired; so logically I need to fix my tires so it doest happen again. I wanted to run a 245/35/18 which would give me about 1/2 and inch more clearance. Turns out your tire selection for that specific size is horrible....

So should I just go with 235/40/18 or is it possible that a 255/35/18 would fit and give me more clearance? Anyone tried a 255?

just stick with a 235/40 and play it safe. Chances are 255/35 will only cause more issues.

X2 on the 235/40. However if you do decide to go with the 245/35/18 there are a few decent choices out there:

Hankook VENTUS V12
Falken FK 452
Pirelli PZero
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

Let me know if you need any more help or quotes on tires

Are you rubbing on the outside panels or against the shock tower?

Have you tried rolling your fenders?

I run a 245/40/18 on a Direzza ZII tire that runs wide. At first i experienced the same problems you did and did the following:
  • Rolled and pulled the fenders. Pulled by hand, rolled with a block and shotpeen hammer.
  • Ground down the fender/bumper connection with a dremel. Then used a traditional bolt to hold the two together instead of the clip.
  • Installed Dinan camber plates set to max camber.
  • Shaved the front bumper a bit on the inner sides with a dremel, equvilant to rolling the fenders. (Probably not necessary but I did this prior to the camber plates)

After this I have zero rubbing under any conditions. Same wheel specs as you.

Outside at the corner where the 1/4 meets the bumper. You cant see it in the picture but the bumper is pushed out maybe a 1/4 inch and the fender is was chipped and needed to have metal welded back on and painted.

Fenders are rolled. I am thinking of removing the little metal tab that secures the 1/4 and bumper with one bolt. My tire always seems to hit that tab. Also I am rolled, not pulled.

Sounds like a plan. Could you maybe post a picture of the bolt that you used to fasten the bumper and 1/4?
