Best Wheel Size?
I have the opportunity to get some wheels where I can choose any size that I want. The company recommended 19x8 in the front and 19x9.5 in the rear. What do you guys think for a staggered set up? What size? Would fender rolling be involved? What tire sizes would fit the set up?
Thanks

I think 9.5 in the rear runs a bit wide and would rub a bit. I think the best setup is 8 front and 9 back. Most members seem to run a 225 and 255 in the back with no issues at all. It's best to go with a staggered setup because you can't run anything wider than an 8 in the front without fender rolling and an 8 in the back is too small in my opinion.

Best wheel & tire size: 17" x 8.5" OZ alleggerita htl or ultraleggera with 245/40-17 Yokohama advan neova AD08 or Khumo ecsta XS, front and rear.
Lighter weight and better performace all around. |

I think it totally depends on what you are looking for. For me, the 19" wheels are nice for the street. They just look better. From a performance standpoint, I'd do some 18" wheels that are light. As for widths I would do 8 or 8.5 up front and 9 or 9.5 on the back. I might lean towards a 8.5/8.5 setup in a 18" wheel.

I've always considered 17" wheels with aggressive tires to be the best combination. You keep wheel weight down and have the weight closer to the hub and also have a cheaper tire selection. A bit more sidewall keeps the tires from being jittery on bad pavement and a good sports tire will have a fairly stiff sidewall to keep turn in sharp.
That said, I run 18"s on the 1er, even for my winter wheels. Aesthetically it looks a lot better and the car is a DD for me, not a track car. |

19's are an aesthetic choice, since tire size selection and weight and cost are all a downside to this choice. If you go that route then go with 19x8" and 19x9". 255's are the rear size you'd be using and they would look very stretched on a 9.5" rim. 225's would also fit properly on the front.
If you go with 18's then there are a lot more questions about what your trying to do with the car and what you're trying to fit. It seems like you're going for looks over anything else since you didn't ask any specific questions besides "19 vs 18". As long as the offsets are selected properly, and the car isn't at stock height, then they both look good. |

i'm going w/ 19s, IMO looks a lot better and since ill have diff wheels for the track, street wheels will be purely aesthetic
i myself will be going as aggressive as i can, starting w/ 19x8.5 +40mm & 19x9.5 +45mm fenders will be rolled but other than that, should be good to go |

We would need to know the offsets and tire sizes being used to know if there will be any rubbing issues involved. Are you lowered?

M3 runs larger diameter tyres:
245/40-18 or 245/35-19 front 265/40-18 or 265/35-19 rear If you can squeeze in the same width of tyre on a 135i you would need to use the following 19" sizes: 245/30-19 front 265/30-19 rear (although the diameter is a bit large, a 265/25-19 would be more appropriate, but doesn't seem to be an available size). The lower profile 19" tyres on a 135i compared with an M3 will provide ride and handling issues in comparison. |

Also need to take into consideration where you'll be driving. When I lived up in Seattle last year I put some 19"s on my car and it was like driving around in a paint-shaker because of the smaller sidewalls, it made a noticable difference. Most of the roads (e.g. I-5), especially after that winter storm last year are in poor shape.
When I reached my destination I was never in a good mood. So I sold them, went back to the stock 18"s. I was quite happy with that choice for the remaining time I lived in Seattle. 18" wheels FTW on the 1er. |

But I do feel your pain... there are some nice 19" wheels out there I'm in a similar decision-making process myself. Looking at some CSL reps, the new Vorsteiner 1-piece, or possibly some VMR 710s if they make them.
