330i 0-60mph

Car and driver magazine tested a manual 330i and did 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. Do you think that this number can be repeated easily by normal drivers (not pro-test drivers)??

I will be getting 330i with an automatic transmission and i would like to know if 0-60 will be under 6 seconds?

Also, i know a guy who has a Mazda RX-8 (automatic) and is kind of a jerk/show off and i would LOVE to whoop him in the 330i.. Is this possible??

I think you will woop him. RX-8 manual runs a high 5 second stock and doesn't have much downlow torque from it's 1.3L engine. A 330i will have tons more torque downlow. Only chance an RX-8 has a chance against a 330i is if both are manual and the 330 driver screws up a launch or can't shift properly.

Should be able to, in theory. If it were the 330i manual, I'd say ABSOLUTELY.

The Auto will not be faster than the manual. The most important thing is condition: air temp, track grip. etc etc

I know that the Auto will be slower than manual but if Car and Driver did 5.6 should the auto be 5.8?

Which is the best way to launch or acclerate an automatic so to get the lowest 0-60 times?

On a highway run, say from 50-120 who would win the RX-8 (auto) or the 330i (auto)??

How about on back roads where handling and braking also count??

The best with the Step is to start out using Sport mode and then shift to second on your own. After that I don't think it makes any sense to screw around, just let the Step take over.

I would never tell you guys my girlfriend's name!! I wish I knew who that was.. I just found the avatar in the avatar option on here. Amazing how we can think someone is hot from their calf and underwear .. for all we know she's bald and wears an eye patch LOL.

BMWIPTY: your 330 will still beat the RX-8 from 50-120. It'll be closer when handling comes into play cuz the RX-8 handles real well but I think given the power advantage the 330 has, it will still outrun an rx-8 on the twisties. By all I've heard/read about the e90, it's gonna be a beast on the skidpad.

I was thinking of getting an RX-8 after I sold my Cooper S, but I took one for a test drive and was not impressed. I chose the 5 series instead.

No matter who wins, the 330i is more exciting and definitely sounds faster

Whoa guys. To the thread-starter, you will whoop your friend's butt.

The Mazda RX-8 without a manual is a crippled vehicle. A poser. It loses significant amounts of horsepower, nearly 50 if I'm not mistaken. I believe the auto RX-8 is rated for 197hp.

Without ever having sat in or driven or raced an auto RX-8, I am very confident you couldn't lose any acceleration contest to one.

UPDATE: Correct numbers for RX-8 HP are 238 in manual trim and 197 in auto.

The problem with the RX8 auto is that it doesn't have enough low end torque. That rotary motor needs plenty of revolutions before it starts flying. We all know that automatic need plenty of torque to make them usable. I wouldn't be worried....
