dh58,

There's a number of companies that can provide you with a US address and then you just have your goods shipped there and they will on-ship to you in Australia (or anywhere).

I have used shipito for a number of years and they have been very good. Some of the higher volume retailers can get lower rates so it pays to check both the price of the item you're buying plus their shipping rate.

Big items / awkward sized items can be expensive. They shipped 4 wheels to me for about $540 including insurance, they arrived in 5 days, no other fees except their fees which are low (maybe <$20, can't remember).

The package for 2 wheels worked out to be;

51.10 lbs (23.17 kg)
23"×23"×23" (59×59×59 cm)

The wheels weighed less than 20lb each, but they were packed really well!

www.shipito.com
I also have had success using shipitto- its the freight forwarder of choice for most people I know.

Real shame about Tischer! I need to pick up some LCI's...

I've only used shipito.com once after hearing all the sound reviews. Service is very simple, can easily save some money. But my shipment arrived damaged. Seller told me to take it up with the freight forwarder.

I requested to make a claim for damages, they asked me file a claim through their website. At the time there was only an option to file for a lost claim. I did this anyway, uploaded photos through there plus tried emailing them. They kept saying to 'file for a damage claim'. After 22 days I logged in to their website and found a NEW link for a damages claim on my home page that allows me to upload photos for a damages claim. I did it.

I send an email right away and get a reply a few days later saying I'm past Fedex 21 day police. Umm

Bit frustrated because I did everything right and still got the shaft. I know my experience is in the minority but I'm not sure if anyone has had to file a claim for damages before, this was my first time ever and it was an epic fail. Sent them multiple emails and never heard back from them since.

Go onto the shipito forums and tell your story long and loud. A moderator will come along and help you.

That is not good, was planning to get the LCI tail lights from Tisher.

BMW AU is so pathetic, prices are always overboard which leads to lost in revenue.

That is why we are forced to sourced parts from overseas.

I've got hit up for customs for the first time ever, got a letter from Australia Post saying they are holding my parcel. Do people usually use a broker at this point (if so can you recommend one) or is it as simple as filling in a form?

You can either do the paperwork yourself and save a hundred or so, or use a broker which costs more but means your parcel is released faster. I have heard good things about auspostcustoms.com.au, you can send them your invoice and the page you received in the mail via their online system, and as long as you pay up they take care of the rest and can arrange clearance and delivery to your door.

Another option to consider;

http://www.priceusa.com.au/ are good for shipping from the US!

Used them before for various purchases. They are based in Bendigo Victoria.

cheers

I got the BMW performance suspension from United BMW. Was $1275. I just filled in the form myself and got an invoice 2 days later for $267. Not that happy as I have bought more expensive stuff from overseas before and not gotten stopped.
