My first weekend and 400kms later...

Well, regardless of the melbourne weather this weekend, i managed to clock up 400kms on my 1er this weekend. Mainly running around between the eastern fwy and various twisty roads

From leaving the dealership on Thurs night till today, I'm still totally addicted to just wanting to get in it and drive it.

A couple of things I've noticed thus far:

1. brake dust on the wheels after 2 days is huge! Purchased the brake dust repellent everyone here is raving about and so far so good.

2. I'm finding it tough to 'heel-toe' downshift (compared with my integra) as the brake pedal is extremely sensitive and the throttle is stiff. Any one else find the same? Maybe it's the way the throttle is hinged to the floor...?

Otherwise I'm just excited about the prospect of driving it home from work tonight

you'd be surprised.... first fill at 375k's with the 50km warning light on. Could have probably stretched it to 420k's

I had the same issue with heal & toe. The brakes are so touchy that I found it difficult to roll my foot and maintain consistent brake pedal pressure. Thankfully the brakes bed in eventually and now with ~6000km on it, it's much better. Still a bit tricky but on a track at 10/10ths I reckon it'll be fine.

I also had to give the rims a good clean and apply the armoral and that was only after 80 odd kms. The front rims were pretty bad, the rears not so bad. I found I didn't really notice how bad they were until I gave them a wipe and the grey turned silver.

I got mine for Melbourne BMW (although I live closer and usually wonder through the dealership at Doncaster BMW).

It's definitely worth the wait. I ordered mine in December last year so i know how most feel on this forum having to wait a long time to get their car.

I checked my average consumption and it's 11.5L/100km - which I think is reasonable given it's still very much in the run-in phase and I'm being gentle with it.

my fuel consumption is also averaging about 11.5L/100km -- pleasantly surprised i was expecting more like 13-14L/100km even with gentle driving for at least the first 1500km or so

Is that by the trip computer or have you calculated this figure manually..

I have found a difference of up to 1.5 litres per 100km varyance by self calculation..

Really Joe? I've been carefully logging my fuel usage, odometer reading and trip computer figures since day one. Every time I fill up, I reset the trip computer. After ~6000km, I'm finding that the trip computer is rarely more than 0.1L/100km different from my calculated figure (it's typically 0.1 less than actual). It's only when I give it a real caning that the computer figure reads about 0.5L/100km less than actual. A day on the track would probably result in even greater difference, though I've not tried it out (yet). BTW, my current net average is 11.0L/100km.

I am the same Bryan..,always resetting the trip after fillups..

No matter how many trips or "spiritted driving" my average on the computer sits on 11.7..Thats whu i have been doing the manuel calculations.

Might reset the computer..

Sounds like you're only resetting the trip meter, because there's no way your fuel consumption would be staying on 11.7 all the time ... unless its a very long term average (ie never being reset). You need to reset the computer's fuel consumption calculation too. It's very easy, just click the computer button on the left stalk until the average figure appears on the dash display, then hold the same button down for a few seconds. It should reset back to "-.-L/100km" or something like that. If you have iDrive, it might be different ... but follow the same principle.
