New tires and wheels rubbing like crazy
so, i have H&R sports on Koni yellows and i just got some VMR V710's with some new tires. the wheel size is 18x8.5+45 and 18x9.5+45 rear. i got the rear offset that way so it looks more aggressive and i'm having someone come roll my fenders out today.
my problem is the tires i chose. I chose to get toyo proxes R1R's because i occasionally track the car and don't mind buying new tires every couple of summers. boy i wish i went with something else. i purchased 225/40/18 for the front and 255/35/18 for the rear and these things rub on EVERYTHING i go over. even if i corner too hard on an off ramp or into a perfectly flat turn or driveway. it's very upsetting because i got a great deal on them (paid $772). toyos just have HUGE treads and they don't look very good either. it almost looks like i could off-road the car does anyone have any advise as to what i should do?? i'm willing to buy a different tire that maybe runs a tad smaller in size. these toyos in the back are a 35 and they legit look like a 50 from the side anything else out there that might not rub so i don't have to give the car a ridiculous camber angle??? i'm kinda desperate here guys. thank you all so much for any input (stupid me for trying something new) haha damn toyo Last edited by woahitsholland; 06-20-2013 at 06:29 PM.. |

You don't have many options on a 1. Aggressive roll, pull, cutting outright, more camber. Some combination of the above sadly, we have crap offsets.

haha yeah i knew that buying the car but they're SO easy to mod and they're fun to drive at the track. i've got guys in my garage rolling the crap out of the fenders as we speak. if that doesn't do the trick i will max out the camber or get camber plates. i'd rather not have to do that though cause it doesn't look as clean.
i feel like hankooks or advan ad08's would not be as "tall" of a tread as the r1r's toyo makes super deep treads on their tires and i've never gotten why haha they all seem to be like that, even the r888's |

..........so i rolled the heck out of the fenders and it still rubs on the plastic in the front and the back is rubbing on something as well. not even as close to as bad as it was and i can corner aggressively again, but it still needs some work. i think i'm going to just get new tires.
what do most people on here run, so that i know i won't have a huge sidewall like the toyos???? |

Popular tires are the Hankook Ventus V12 and Michelin PSS. If you plan on doing aggressive driving, PSS > Ventus.
On a side note, are you sure they're V708s? We only make them in 5x112 and an 8.5 width!

Tons have similar wheels, most run stretched tires if they are lowered. All R rated tires that I've ever seen run really big. PSS's run around average so you'll rub some with them. You could use the same widths and get Toyo T1R's and they'd look way smaller, somewhat stretched, no rubbing. Falkens and most Nittos would be the same way. I'm still working on my fenders, ride height, etc to get my PSS rears to fit, the T1R's I had before had tons of room.
If I tracked my car sometimes I'd get Star Specs or preferably the new Z1 model.

I think the VMR's are good looking, good quality wheels, but I love my Apex Arc 8's for their near perfect offsets. 235 / 255 on my tires, no fender rolling, no additional camber, no rubbing ever. Not sure what you think about different wheels, but it's an option to consider.

yeah, maybe. i just really like the agressive look of the vmr's i have on there. i know it can be rub-free if i get the right tires. i think i'm going to try some hankook ventus v12's or michelin pss's i just don't know which one has a smaller and more 'curved' sidewall.
anyone know which one of those tires run smaller in size so it won't rub?? |
