Life after RFT! Thank you god!

I just got a set of Hankook K110 Ventus V12 evo
I spend 99% of my time in the car going to and fro work.
Odds are this car will see 1 race day one day in it's life.
For me these tires were the right price with OMG the right ride!

Why did BMW ever think that RFT was a good idea?

ps
they work very well in the rain.
they work very well on rough roads of NJ
they put down power well
the onlything they had a hard time with was when you put down huge amounts of power when trying to escape from killer soccer moms
and
they were not to happy to be near painted lines on a hot day...no clue why....

Good to hear that you're happy with your decision to switch. A couple quick notes about the Hankook Ventus V12. It's a great performer for the price, in both the dry and in the wet (while it has a decent amount of tread), however the sidewalls are very soft. If you're driving in areas that have potholes or cracks, be weary. You may develop sidewall bubbles over time.

I liked these tires a lot when I ran them. They lasted me a while, were quiet, and offered pretty solid performance.

Well, most tires will have softer sidewalls than RFTs, however the Hankooks are known to have especially soft sidewalls. Moreso than other tires.

I would recommend checking your door jamb for any tire pressure recommendations. It won't matter whether it's an RFT or non-RFT.

well you can bump up +5/10psi if needed when the tire is warm.
bring it down 5psi when you are autocrossing for better grip!

but hey aything is better than those RTF's they bubbled up fast and hard and quick!

I know you were joking... but here is a dealer cut away of RFT vs non RFT... I think its interesting to see how much more beefier the RFT are made.

Yeah it was a joke!
I think my granite counter top in my kitchen is softer than the RFT!
My god! That's some thick thick rubber on them tires right?
Think of all of that energy you are burning off by having that much unsprung mass....woooh!
The care is alive and well with these new tires!
Maybe when i make more money I'll go for the French tires =)

Getting rid of my OE runflats was one of the best moves I ever made.

However, some people want/need runflat tires. There is one model of runflat tire that impressed me greatly. Bridgestone's RE960AS Pole Position

It's an all-season tire, so it won't meet everyone's needs, but I was mighty impressed with the ride quality when testing it against non runflat tires. The ride quality was the same as the non runflat test models.

Just an fyi....things have improved with time, which is to be expected.

How do they work in NJ snow?
That is we get hit one day out of three months and the rest just mild slush and rain.

After I got new tires, I drove right back to the tire store! I walked up to the counter and ask "What the hell did you do to my BMW? It now steers left/right, stops better, and my teeth don't chatter when hit a bump in the road." The guy said "you did NOT want runflat tires." As I was leaving the tire store I saw 2 guys carrying 1 of my runflat used tire. "Must be heavy" I thought. TRUE STORY
