225 up front on stock 261Ms rubbing...
My right front PSS, 225 size, on stock 261Ms, seems to be rubbing on hard left corners at the track. Normal? I even have -1.5 camber up front...
The tires are non-trackable and is street duty only now. I gotta buy a new set for the track (Thinking Direzza Z2s). But want to make sure if my rubbing is abnormal and if so, fix it before the anomaly destroy my next set of tires... Please help. Thanks!

Whats the ratio on that tire? That's one hell of rubbing problem to gouge in on a 225 width tire on 18" oe wheels.

Just 225/40/18 up front. No lowering, stock suspension aside from Ground Control Camber Plates
I guess this is not a normal, and nobody else rubs with this type of setup?

Definitely not normal as far as I'm concerned. Have you checked your camber plates and they are tight? Figure its a long shot at explaining but anyways.

I don't know of anyone getting rubbing with any 225/40 front tyre on stock rims and stock everything else.

Looks much more like tread separation/tire chunking from overheating at the track. Notice there's no continuous mark?
IMHO, that's not rubbing. Tread is pulling away from the carcass/cords. And you look like you need a lot more than -1.5 up there. You're beating up that shoulder pretty good there. |

Agree that it's not a rubbing issue. I'm running 235 pss with no issue.

Over driving is my initial suspicion. But on hard left handers, I think I do hear rubbing like noise... hmm....

Are you running spacers? I've tracked my car with the pss on 18-8.5-et45 with no rubbing.

What pressures are you running in the fronts?
It looks like you're over rolling the tires, I can't see any arrow marks from the picture to look and check...perhaps you rolled over them and wore away the arrows. Let me add this is the 3rd set of PSS tires I've seen destroyed on these forums. I hope people start to realize these aren't track or autocross tires. |

They certainly are not dedicated track/AX tires but they sure are fantastic DD with the occasional AX tire. I do think they get a little soft when heated up, but luckily at most of the BMWCCA events around here, the course isnt long enough to get a good amount of heat into them. I thought my PSS felt really good at my last event and a driving instructor was amazed that my car handled so well bone stock with just tires/wheels. He would have sworn the car had camber plates based on how it cornered and felt in some of the more aggressive corners.

Then, when it is pushed behind a good driver, they wonder why the tire is giving up. I've had my RS3s in 50F weather, as well as 95F weather with track temps exceeding 115F+ and my tires were too hot to even touch. Nothing but consistent wear has been observed. Have I had extra shoulder wear...of course. Is it shredding?...nope The 1er is a very balanced car, no doubt about that. But when you get to the camber challenged BMW a tire can only do so much before it gives up, in the form of squealing, loosing grip, or in this case actually degrading on the shoulder. I can't wait to pay this car off and turn it into a dedicated track/autox car and throw a LSD into it. It is an awesome platform. Just some new tires and it will be that much better |

If it's purely camber/overheat/overdrive, then I'll at least be more comfortable that if I get some Direzzas and maybe a bit more camber, that the next set of tires won't get killed pre-maturely like this so badly. Thanks!

My Pirelli P Zero's stood up very well to an airfield track day session on a fairly abrasive surface, no compound rolling or excessive wear or anything. Great DD tyre too

Definitely looks like chunking from overheating due to aggressive driving.
