Cracked windshield have a question

A rock hit my windshield and made a long horizontal crack. So I called my Insurance and am having it replaced. When I talked to the windshield replacement company they ask if I had the condensation remover in the windshield. I have no clue how to tell if I have a condensation remover. Does anyone know how to tell?

I did not want to call them since they are not doing the work. I am sure someone on this forum has come across the question when ordering a windshield but a search did not answer my question.

No actually I assume they may be refering to the heating 'coils' you see on some windshields as a defroster.

No, they ask me if it had a rain sensor which I know the car has one. I also get to pick the color of top tint strip so I took Gray since I have SGM paint. But this condensation thing has me stumped.

BTW - Your signature picture looks familiar. I had a Z4 and I believe I have seen that same pic but replaced with a Z4 on another forum.

It could be like when you see some rear windshields with those blue dots all over them(in a matrix pattern). Not sure why they are there... but thats the only thing that comes to mind.

I would still ask a BMW dealership about it. Or BMW NA.

If they are not familiar with the car at all I would call a different company that knows what they are dealing with...

I think it would be hard for a company to know all options on all cars with respect to windshields but if not there is an opportunity to make some cash writing some software and selling it to the windshield companies. This company has replaced several of my windshields over the years and never had an issue. Not even the one I see common in windshield replacement where the glue oozes into the A pillar inside the car and they use new windshield trim. They give me an “advertising fee” which is my deductible by putting a sticker on the windshield that I simply pull off when they leave. They ordered both windshields and will figure it out when they come to my house to replace the windshield. I believe I risk more going to a new company I never dealt with. Bottom line – Inquiring minds want to know.

Yup, I had that signature pic on the Roadfly E85 Z4 forum.
I really loved that Z4, but had to let it go when the grandchild came into the picture.

So they replaced my windshield. The guys showed my the condensation monitor and I just wanted to let everyone know in case you come across the same problem since no one on the board knew what it was. It is a little sensor/connector under the cover that covers the rain sensor on the inside on the windshield. You have it if you have the auto climate control system.

Cascade Auto glass did an excellent job, he was a craftsman. The guy was into cars and was really interested in my 135i. He even had two other employees stop by in their vans to check it out. The glass seems optically clearer than the Original glass.

Interesting.

When I had my glass replaced about 8 months ago, OEM was the only glass available, so they had to order it from BMW.

I had given them the VIN number for the car, so I would assume they were able to get the information about the sensor from that. Of course, all the 1 Series cars sold in the US have auto climate control, so maybe they didn't need it.

Jaguars have the feature, it is really neat, although you should use to it. I agree, if the company ask something irrelevant to your car, then perhaps they have no idea what to do, so I would recommend to stay away of them and just work with BMW authorized companies.

BTW do you pay deductible? My insurance asks for it, so I have to drive with crack

You should check your insurance co, but all glass is covered under the comp coverage. Not just windshields but also mirror(only teh glass part) side windows and headlights & fog lights.

I thought all US states had a "zero deductable" on comp claims. Plus it can not go against your driving/insurance record.

Going through this process in SC...

I know, at least in SC, windshields are replaced with no deductible. I had to push a little, but wanted BMW windshield and they finally agreed. Waiting for it to come in. They asked for VIN to make sure windshield was same as original.
