Most Popular

What is the most popular Michelin Tires to replace the RFT on a 2012 135i? I know there will be many different opinions but if you are tracking tires then you most likely have seen what the most recommended one is. Also I have the 2FA Light alloy wheels V-Spoke 372/MT.

Why does it have to be a Michelin? I swear, people here are really sipping the koolaid when it comes to Michelin. The PSS is a great daily driving tire, but it's far from the best in terms of grip, and overall performance.

Since the request was for tires to replace runcraps with, they are presumably for DD use. The PSSs are way superior to any runcrap, have good tread wear and are also great in the rain. The reason they are so popular is that they are that good.

What do you have in mind then? It might help OP to decides which tires

Switched out the run flats to PSS 225 front/255 rear on my M-sport & made a world of difference. Note: daily driver, never tracked.

He mentioned to some extent that he wants a trackable tire, and the PSS has a hard time even hanging with the previous generation of hot street tires out there, let alone any of the current stuff a la Hankook RS3, Bridgestone RE-11A, Dunlop Direzza ZII, BFG Rival, Advan Neova, Toyo RA1, etc. Pretty much the usual suspects. It would be beneficial if the OP was more specific regarding his goals and expectations with the tires.

PSS, get them heated up (not as hard in 90+ degree weather) and they will preform on the track.

Michelins in my opinion are overpriced for they performance they provide. Many other manufacturers with comparable performance and lesser price.

I just replaced Hankooks with Bridgestones.

I like my PSS for a lot of reasons. I think they are comfortable, relatively quiet, have great DD+ perfomance, and wear really well. If you do any significant highway driving, these things can go forever. I got over 25k miles in like 3.5/32 of tread depth on my STI.

If it's gotta be Michelin, then it's gotta be Super Sports or the Sport Cup for track only.

Like others have said there are some great alternatives at similar or lower prices. I went from the PSS to the RE-11's and they are a full second and half quicker around a track. I consistently pull higher g's in both lateral and braking maneuvers. The breakaway characteristics are similar and the ride is nearly identical. I went through the PSS's in less than 6k miles with a track and street mixture. I am at 10k miles with the RE-11's with about 40-50% tread life left.

I didn't really like the R-S3's since they are dicey when cold and they don't make enough noise on the track for me. For those with more track experience they seem to be faster, but I like to listen for when the tire is about to go and R-S3's are quiet until it's too late. More of a learning curve for sure.

I haven't tried the others so I can't speak to their +'s and -'s.

I put Conti's Extreme Contacs on my car BUT I live in Ohio so I have all kinds of weather to deal with. My BMW is a daily driver. If I remember, the Conti's did very well in wet. My heart said Michelin PPS but I had to remember I have to drive the car every day!

I consider overall performance to be dry performance, wet performance, track performance, DD performance, treadlife, etc... Add those up and you have overall performance.

Michelin has had a nack with getting the perfect balance of all of these things. They have the best overall performance. The only other tire I can think of that even comes close to the PSS is the Conti Sport Contact.

Compare that to tires like the Star Spec, or the RE-11 and you realise that these tires have very specific functions. They emphasize dry grip at the expense of wet performance, treadlife, and noise.

I love my Star Specs, but there have been plenty of times where ive regretted not getting another set of PS2s

personally, i like the continental extreme contact DW. i had them on my 330ci ZHP and now on my 135. i have excellent grip in dry and wet conditions. they are very durable. however, i do not track my car. OP it might be in your best interest to get an extra set of rims to use just for track days. i think that will be the best route. best of luck

The Continental Extremes are all season tires and do not compare with dedicated, maximum performance summer tires like the PSS. All season tires compromise performance in order to function across a wider range of environments. This is why many people living in places with a wide range of temperature and who want higher performance year round will run 2 sets of tires - Summers and Winters.

I agree. Other tires will grip the road relentlessly in the dry but are much less enticing in other driving conditions. The PSS is a really good performer for a summer street tire.

Actually, the huge selling point of the Star Specs is that they work well in the rain compared to their competitors, that, and they also have a wide temperature range in which they can stick like glue.
Like I said, people here really like to sip the Michelin Kool-Aid. It's a great tire, that rides nicely on the freeway, but as I previously mentioned, would get out-handled by a great number of tires, many of which are also less expensive..
