Best bang for the buck summer tires

On a budget, want to spend as little as possible, so looking for the best bang for the buck tires. No HPDE or autocross, street only.

Currently running RE-11 in the usual 225-40/255-35 size on stock rims. They lasted 25-30K miles. The rears are bald and really getting treacherous in the rain. The fronts have a bit more left.

Dunlop Direzza DZ101 - $484 after rebate
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 - $478 after rebate
Continental ExtremeContact DW - $620*

I had settled on the Contis, and earlier this month there was a $100 adidas gift card, but I missed out and the offer must be over, otherwise I would have gotten them -- no brainer.

So now I'm considering my options. I'm intrigued by the low prices (after rebate) of the DZ101 and Eagle F1. I mean, how bad could they be for DD on the street. No track or autocross and 8/10ths on the on/off ramps is already too fast.

I've always ignored Sumitomo, Kumho and Hankook. Thoughts/opinions?

Continental ExtremeContact DW - Good tire.

Don't know why you would ignore the Hankook Ventus they are a really good tire as well for the money. Been running them for the last 2 years.

No good reason, I've just always ignored those brands (or rather never bought those brands). The Ventus are $512 after rebate, so I'll consider them too.

I did ignore them for a long time as well till I needed a cheap set of rubber to put on my last car before selling it and got them in a group buy. Was very surprised how well they perform.

Where are you seeing these prices with rebate? I'm in the same boat as OP and need to do something pretty soon. Car was in the dealer yesterday for service and the SA gave me an unsolicited quote for $1,650 for RFT replacements. Ha! Also, what are you doing about a spare, did you get a donut or the emergency kit? I gotta factor that in to my initial cost to switch over from RFTs. The original set only lasted 20K miles.

Tire Rack, search 225/40-18 front with 255/35-18 rear.

I have the M Mobility Kit, the BMW donut/jack, but I prefer to carry a full size spare. I also have AAA Plus, which gives me 100 miles towing to my choice of location (i.e. not closest service center, tow it to my house).

I only rarely drive farther than 100 miles away, but when I do, I always carry the full size spare and BMW jack.

Factoring in prices I would go with the F1's from that list.

I've always felt the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo (roughly that name) are great bang for the buck. It's what I have now.

That's not to say they are great tires, and depending on what you do (ie track days) they may not meet a minimum requirement for you. But they're pretty good, and quite cheap compared to everything else.

The Hankook Ventus V12s are a great bang for your buck tire. However, the Continental ExtremeContact DW would be a close second. We have tons of customers that are on both tires and we've heard nothing but good things

RE760s for a crisper feeling DD tire vs. the DW.

And why are you ignoring those brands? Don't discount the HTRZIII either...too cheap not to look at...or the Kumho LEs.

If you're looking for best bang for your buck, don't ignore companies which often deliver just that.

The Goodyears would be an easy pick at those prices.

I owned a set on my car about a year and a half ago and I thought they were great. Relatively inexpensive, pretty grippy, quiet, and comfortable. My only gripe was that the sidewalls were very soft.

Just when I was thinking the consensus seemed to be Hankook Ventus...

Goodyear Eagle F1 A2 definately my pick too. I have these on my current car and they are phenomenal, especially in the wet.

There's a sale coming up from Tomorrow through Sunday that offers up to $100 in rebates and, if you use a discount tire card, an additional $50 in gift card. I might use this opportunity to buy another set of PSS!

http://www.discounttire.com

I was editing this to mention the rebates available for Dunlop/Goodyear, but the OP is already aware if them. I believe they'll stack with discount tires rebates and gift card.

Too bad there isn't a rebate/gift card going on for Michelin.

Don't forget to have them price match your tires!

PSS are significantly better than the others, but you may not care/notice the difference unless you drive seriously. For those of us who have gone from Hankooks to PSSs, there's a definite improvement.

Continental Extreme Contact DW is what I use to run. Until they failed me after only 3 months, the company, AND TIRERACK failed to give me an answer and said "oh well, you have to go through continental and ask them", and continental told me that I "must have damaged them" when driving 10 miles an hour and 3 tires have a sidewall blow out only to find out later there was a bad batch and I was left holding my ****...

I actually "tried" the Sumitomo Summer tires. They are the cheapest, and they are AWESOME! For the price, and performance, I will continue to buy them. I only wish I did earlier. After spending thousands at tire rack over the years, I will never buy from them nor continental because of what they knowingly did to me, either.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric Gen 1 are the best tires I have used. IMO they perform better than Michelin PSS in a couple of aspects. Goodyear is the obvious choice of the three.

I'm on my second set of Hankook Ventus V12s and love them. There's definitely better tires out there but you're going to pay for it. For the money, I find these to be an awesome tire. They also run a little narrower/have a rounded tread edge and allow me to run wider up front (245) w/o rubbing on my lower spring perch.
