The "How much extra this year " is your insurance thread

My renewal just arrived and Allianz wants an extra $57 despite the drop in the cars value. Be interested to see how you all go.

GIO increased my insurance by $249...Rang them up and got stuck into them, then they recinded and reverted back to last years premium..

qship - I found that trend in ALL insurance policy I do.

cough...

My 4WD had a renewal last month. Went up from $840 to $960 from AAMI. I tear up the renewal. Use the same agree value to sign up on line with AAMI in my wife's name. Get a quote. When I setting up to pay on line, I add my name and details inside as a 2nd driver. ... end result $680 for the same car. Go figure. If I use my name first then add my wife's name as 2nd driver, it would have been $730 (still cheaper than $940).

Some current affair program said not to renew and shop around. Even call your own insurance and open another account.

I think they are trying to screw you by doing renewal like this. It is all legit for us to do this way to lower the premium.

I am definitely shopping around up to May next year for my BMW. The only thing is if you modify the car too much you have less choice.

Any one disagree and have any thoughts?

GIO went up $54 for me on my Subaru. Not complaining though, seeing as though i get Rating 1 with them and i'm under 25.

It's a different story for the new 125i though, rip off merchants!

it's a bit hard to compare insurance premiums... x5mad, where are you located? I'm sure you're not in Sydney... if you are then WOW!

Me - same tender age of 35, rating 1. I got $1500 from Shannon which I am with and $1300 with AAMI. Other over 2K and some not even wants to insure me.

EDIT: Agree with not able to compare insurance with other people. Just shop around and USE their online quote - usually the cheapest, but don't trust me. Do some call work.

Just over 980 for the 125 and just over 1526 for the 135, not sure why there's stamp duty on insurance policy.... and just realised they charge me an admin fee??? Both with protection and hire car option.

I previously went with alianz because it has a much more general terms and conditions - ie, it cover for more things - they are the fine details but there are important to me. BMW insurance had been good too, basically the same policy as the allianz with some added benefits and at a cheaper price.

Just be careful with insurance (and finance as well) - different dealers quotes different prices. Don't go direct either, as I have rung them direct before, and they basically tell me I should speak to the dealer instead as they give a better price/rate.

I am in QLD. Yeah, I was pretty pleased with the quote I got. Don't know why it was so cheap, but I am definately not complaining!

A few details:
1. Obtained and bought the insurance on line with AAMI through their website. Fully comprehnsive.
2. 31 yrs of age, Protected NCD for life. 135i Convertible Automatic. Garaged at night. No windscreen excess. $500 excess for everything else. Car insured for the full amount paid and new replacement in the first 2 years. Essentially a bog standard policy.
3. I'm not sure whether it matters as the quote did not ask about other policies with AAMI. But I have insurance with AAMI for both my 08 X5 3.0si and 03 E46 318ti sports compact. The funny thing is that the E46 being the least expensive here is actually the most expensive to insure out of all my cars ($890), the X5 was $780.
4. No special conditions attached to the policy.
5. It is certainly not a discount policy as I have read through the policy very carefully. It pretty much covers the basics + I opted for no windscreen excess. I did not need the hire car option as I have several cars and my NCD is protected for life.

I rang them up to see whether I could do better and mentioned to them I already had 2 policies with them. The qoute I got over the phone was just over $800. So of course I paid on line.

So all in all I am very happy with all 3 policies. I have no idea why it is so cheap, I did shop around and the next cheapest quote was about $1200 with suncorp.

im in the same boat with x5mad with my 135i
In perth.
30yo, full no claim bonus.
no claim bonus protection
windscreen protection.
extra excess to reduce my premium (1000 excess, drops the yearly premium by 200$)
parked in a carport, and im not in the greatest area.

read through the policy and its all good. $720 odd.

insurance in sydney is stupid, a friend moved over here and the insurance premium dropped by half for her mazda3, same insurance company too. You guys just have too much crime over there :P

x5mad: im the same my gtr, its only worth 25k and it costs 200 more to insure. it is fairly modified from stock though

edit: ohh, its with ING/ANZ

We pay too much for every thing here in Sydney compared to other states.
Im 29, rating 1 with 60% NCB, insurance is with Alphera at $2100 (best I could do). If my renewal goes up at the end of year, I will definately change and move on. Its a bit of a industry known scam, baiting you in with a cheap/fair qoute than slowly increasing it every year after that.
I was also in the market for an EVO X, but average quoted insurance was $4k. Pretty much made the decesion to go BMW very easy.

i'm also with Alphera, 27 yo 60% NCB in Syd. No windscreen protection, market value.

I'm paying $1478 for 13 months (they had an offer with 1 month bonus free) with $500 excess. Not sure how much extra it will be next year.

Mine went up by $123.34 to $943.12. I suppose I did make a claim last year when I hit the wallaby. But then again what is the lifetime NBC for?? It's all BS!
