Did you order an alarm?
I think it's ridiculous that the alarm isn't standard on the E90. I ordered CA to be able to get in and out easily. I assume if you don't order an alarm or CA you will have to pull your key out every time you lock and unlock your doors. I'm just curious. How many of you purchased the alarm option and how many did not?

I got the alarm installed in my E90, and probably will in the E91 also. I'm not sure I understand your point about taking the key out. That reallly has only to do with the comfort access option and not the alarm. Also, I often disable the motion sensor if I leave my windows down 1" (in case a big bug gets in), which you would still have to do with the key even with CA.
Comfort Access would be cool. But it's not $500 cool, for me anyway.

The alarm is not necessary. If you go in the DIY area you can see how easy is to install it (if you really want it) and you can see the part list ... fdc

I really don't entirely disagree. I opted for the alarm because it will still deter the amature and joy ride seeker. A pro is going to get your car if he wants it. Is someone is looking for a quick steal or break-in, they're less likely to bother the car with the flashing alarm light if there are other targets around.
But all in all, your points are valid. Really, they should be standard anyway which would make this a moot question.

I did not order it. But will be looking into enabling the clown nose once the updates are available.

More than likely this is feature of having alarm installed only? Love way everyone thinks alarm is useless yet it gives me... $100.00 discount off my car insurance. Every Year! 2 BMW's sitting next to each other & someone wants whats in car. One has blinking light other does'nt, guess who's car gets ripped off |

you say the car may be targeted because it doesn't have an alarm, but it is unlikely that anyone is going to try and steal it, and if they do, a car with an alarm is not any better protected. really the only type of theft that will occur with the 3 series is if you leave something visible in your car and they break the window to steal it, but it is very unlikely that they will try and steal the car. and, as i said, if someone is simply going to break your window and snatch something, by the time you hear the alarm, (if you hear it, or if you bother to run outside) the thief will already be gone.

Quick q - do cars without premium package have the clown nose on the rear view mirror? I know premium pack has the special rear view mirrow w/ compass, clown nose, and 3 radio signal buttons...but I wasn't sure what the normal rear view mirror had.

I feel most thieves will not take chance of car going off & getting caught. When right next to that car sits one without alarm & no distraction 4 them? Hey I rather have it then not! Very small price to pay for piece of mind. 31 years driving & only time my cars got broken into was cars without alarms. |

As discussed in another thread a while back, is there a way to have the dealer program the clown nose to flash even if no alarm is installed?
I believe this is possible... |

I used to joke with a guy I worked with about my anti-theft system. I would park my almost identical maxima se next to his, but I used a club type steering wheel lock. Sure enough, his was stolen while parked right next to mine. (and never recovered)

Though I haven't gotten my E90 yet, when it comes in you can be sure I WILL order an alarm.
Last night whilst I was sleeping, someone tried to steal my E46... AGAIN! (Not the same place as the first time though). However, I have an alarm in the E46 so I can only assume that once it went off they ran away. Nothing inside was even disturbed, so I guess I'm lucky. I never keep the valet and emergency key inside the car either. Minor damage around the driver's side door lock though (which is now destroyed).
