2008 Ash Tray to Cubby Help
Is it possible to eliminate my ash tray and swap it for a cubby assembly? I have no need for an ash tray and would like to have additional space for my glasses and such. If it is possible, does anyone know the part number I would need to order. Thanks!

Yes you can. You need to remove the center console (see my DIY thread) in order to remove the ashtray and install the cubby.
edit, just saw you are in Cincinnati. I can help you if you get stuck. I even have a spare cubby if you have not bought one. |

The shallow part of the door pocket works well for my sunglass case.

Easy swap out. Takes all of 10 minutes or so. Hardest part is disconnecting and reconnecting the wires under the center console. Mine had steptronic and iDrive so there were three connectors to disconnect. IDrive, Selector and lighter wires. Reconnection was of course just iDrive and selector wires. There's even a mod DIY to use the leds from the ash teay to light the cubby. I didn't do that but it was pretty cool.

Struggling to find the cubby assembly on realOEM, would love to be rid of ashtray also! Some help would be appreciated - like the proper name for it or perhaps even part number anyone?
cheers

FWIW, when I did this mod I ordered both of these part numbers as well. However, the cubby itself comes with a rubber insert of its own, so I ended up with two inserts. I'm not sure if that is intended or not, just thought I'd share.

+1 I was just gonna say the same thing, my cubby came with a rubber insert already so there's no need to order one.
