have you seen the dreaded HPFP? if not come in here ...
Well had my software updated in a recall last week, still didn't make long cranks go away so they finally replaced it. Took some pics of it on my Blackberry Bold 9000 (not the best camera) ... this small damn thing has caused so much trouble for so many N54 owners

My question is, why is this fuel pump notoriously failing all the time, but other pumps in other cars across the manufacturer spectrum not? What is Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, Honda, Chevy, etc all doing right that BMW is doing wrong?

The dealer let me read the recall paper that BMW sent them, and it said it had something to do with ethanol levels in the fuel or something. I don't know if our fuel in Saudi has ethanol though.

You have american gas, so likely. You drill it out, they pack it, refine it, and sell it

Don't say that too loudly. The HPFP conspirests will have a field day explaining to you that is just a bunch of bull from BMW. And BMW just wants to save a few bucks and watch us all die horrible deaths because of our failing fuel pumps.

Haha, so very true. As an example, we only have E10 fuel here in CO and my car has been good so far in 15K miles. I think someone on here mentioned that they only use non ethanol fuel and is on his 4th HPFP. I wonder if the public will ever know the root cause.

Or maybe that's just a convenient scapegoat, I dunno. All I know is the HPFP issue on N54 engines is a very real, very bad problem affecting thousands of BMW customers. They need to fix this once and for all. |

Since I have been running ethanol free 93oct gas since I've had my car and it is currently sitting in the shop (Poor thing has been there for 14 days while they run test after test) to have a its 4th HPFP put in in 12,000 miles, I feel I can safely say ethanol is not the culprit.

Poor bastard. I don't quite see how that thing would really care what type of fuel it is pumping unless they have different viscosity or something. But I have had check engine lights in warm weather when using high ethanol fuel.

Ethanol additives are quickly growing throughout Europe and Asia and have actually had a presence in Europe for years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_fuel#Europe |

Now that I think about, since my car is is still in shop right now and they've had it for about two weeks trying to figure out what the problem is, it's highly likely that they tested the fuel as part of the trouble shooting process. Next time I talk to the service manager I'll see if he has any results. |
