So I take it you don't believe a company would ever do anything to one model to make it less attractive or intentionally limit performance potential compared to next model up on the family tree? Denial isn't just a river in Egypt my friend. MOST luxury car buyers make a buying decision based on emotional appeal, generally visual. The 3 is the bread and butter car of BMW and I can promise you the 1 will NEVER be made to look as attractive as the 3. |

I sure hope so - it's entertaining at least!
I neither hate, nor love, the headlights. I mean, they're headlights - they don't even have tits. What's to love? I do however, have some common sense...enough to know that designers do not purposely make cars ugly so that they sell less units than their more expensive stablemates. Thanks, by the way for providing a picture of the utterly nauseating headlights of the 7-series, which pretty much proves my point. Think about it. |

Look we can argue this ad nauseam. I stated my opinion, and that's all it is. I certainly wouldn't have ordered the car if I thought it were ugly. It is not as visually striking as the 3er coupe and there is a reason for that. |

I'll be the dissenting opinion and say:
1. I like the 1er's headlamps 2. I also like the tall look to the greenhouse. To me, they both harken back to the E30. For someone who came of age when eyelids were on people, not cars, I kinda feel all nostalgic looking at the skinny and tall, wide-eyed 1er. Leave the sinister look to my wife |

3 series cars are too common around here... the last thing I want to be driving is a car that looks like just another 3 series on the road. Yeah it looks like a frightened kittah but at least it's noticeably different that the rest of the bimmers! Also with the angel eyes turned on, the 1-er looks a bit more psychotic. It's a visual statement to other cars on the road to "get out of the way because my car has teh crazies"

I completely agree. It looks much better with the angel eyes turned on. It makes it a completely different animal

We'll have to wait and see when someone makes a carbon fiber hood whether they reshape the leading edge over the headlights to add a bit of an eyelid.
Speaking of hoods, I didn't check the hood when I test drove the car to see what's it's made of (steel or aluminum). Anyone know?

The size of the 1er headlights appear more noticeable in pics (a bit like the crazy eyes of the runaway bride) than when seeing it in person. :eyebulge:
At the car show the 1er appears very well balanced from a design perspective and the headlight size looks very natural. Even the height of the car appear right.. For those of you who haven't seen it in the flesh, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised... :w00t: |
