M Badge on non-M car thoughts?
Hey guys I just came over from a 5 series forum and a 530i and over there we disowned people who put ///M Badges on their cars (grille or trunk). This young kid probably late teens parks near me everyday and he debadged his 135i and replaced it with an M emblem with the only mods being a remus quad exhaust and carbon-fiber skirt. Made me sick .
So what are your guy's thoughts on people who put M emblems on their car? (M-SPORT IS FINE, I MEAN ///M BADGES ON THE TRUNK LID OR FRONT GRILLE SUGGESTING AN ///M CAR) Last edited by Rocket135; 04-23-2011 at 12:22 AM.. |

Obviously what hes done is sacrilege and hes not a real BMW enthusiast. His crime is going to be that much worse when the 1M is on the streets, as thats exactly how the 1M is badged...

It's one of those things, I could put the 1M fenders, bumpers, suspension, gauges, seats, wheels, and transmission in my 135, but I would still not feel right about putting the 1M badging on there. I LOVE the look of the subtle "M" on the back of a car, but in my opinion you're a dbag if you didn't pay for it. Same story as Mercedes and AMG. This guy that I parked next to once had an "S500 AMG". Thought that was pretty hilarious...he is just proving he is a wannabe that doesn't know jack about his car, or brand.
I'm sure most are aware...but an AMG Mercedes only has a two digit designation, 43, 55, 63, 65, etc... |

Since everyone else is sharing stories of improper badging I'll throw this one out there for you entertainment... In my home town I frequently see a modded VW Golf with M3 grills in the fenders.

My 2011 135i is my first BMW, but even so, I had to ask the sales guy about the M-Sport package and options. He tried to explain why having an M on your doorsill and steering wheel was okay, but even as a neophyte, I realized the BMW 'M' stands for something really significant. In fact, I had been thinking about ordering the M-Sport package, but was afraid that I would be creating an M-wannabe car for myself.

To each their own....
The funny thing about "upgrading" your car with fake badges is; 1.) People who think the badge is real don't understand or care 2.) People who know the badge is fake (obvious to those in-the-know) think you are a huge douche for doing it. Lose-lose situation!

What about BMW putting 9 ///M badges on the BMW M-Sport model? (Which is what they do) Is that OK? How about the license plate frame for an ///M Sport model?, or ///M on the valve stem caps? Or the front? Is there anywhere where it is OK to have the ///M badge? What about a watch? A billfold? A jacket? All are items that BMW puts the ///M badge.
I agree putting ///M badge on the right rear is uncalled for, but what about badging the car "///M Sport"? It is an M-Sport model built that way by BMW. BMW must the biggest douche in the world.

OK, how about putting the words ///M Sport, using the ///M logo, with the word Sport next to it? On an ///M Sport car, say on the left rear? Kosher or not?

If thats the biggest problem you have in your life then it must be pretty easy... It's his car let him look like a fool... Other than that the 135i has M designed parts on it so thats why they are there.... But if it isn't coming from the BMW factory with a M logo on it then don't put it on.....

If a guy wants to dress up his car with ///M badges, so be it. As long as he paid for it. And paid for the badges. People mod their cars to their hearts content. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. BTW how are those smoked lens working for ya?

Ummm, no. Go read the 1M subforum if you want to know about all the differences. Some people are also suggesting that BMW will not sell you some of the 1M parts (don't know how well they could control that). The one you can't fake is the wide body kit. If you could get that then you might be able to get pretty close, but right now it's not an option.
