MMW Supercharged N52 e90 (1er compatible)

Good Morning 1Addicts, I don't normally frequent the 1er boards but am always on the e90post side of things.

I wanted to give you guys something to smile about.

MMW has developed a supercharger kit for the N52 that will be 128i compatible in its final phase.

Anyway, check the descriptions in the video for info on both cars and mod's on each. Full final kit is being prepared next week, with higher boost and final production intake.

Supercharged N52 is the one in frame.. (obviously)

How will the stock, weaker magnesium block hold up to more hp than the N54/55 plants? How about the stock internals, crank, rods, pistons.....?

What's the point? More expensive and performs less than buying a 135i/335i .

ok....so buy a 135i and tune - more hp than an aftermarket supercharger could ever produce on a 128i.

One of those "to each their own" kinda things...

It gives more options to people who want it or maybe couldnt initially afford a 135i.

Some people may buy the 128i for the lower car payment or may think they would have been happier and then realise they want more power and can buy it after the fact. You also have HS or college students buying the 128I for similar reasons and can afford it outside the car payment. Some will do it just because to be different. There are also many faster cars than the 135i,too, i nthe same or lower price range stock for stock. again... to each their own.

I initially bought the 128i as my daily commuter with no intent on modding it whats-so-ever. ( I have a built TT'd 370z with 600+ whp for that.) As always though, I caught the "bug" and enjoy it as a hobby. I never considered a 135i since the price was a little above I was willing to pay vs the problems that all my friends were having with theirs. I bought my 128i 2 years ago for $19,000 and don't have any car payment, if I would have opted for the 135i or 335i, I would be paying way too much for what I feel the car is worth. I think I came out a lot better with my choice and since I dont have a car payment on the BMW, I have the cash for my 370z that will eat a 135i's ass for dinner for around the same price with the mods I've added to my 370z.

If this SC is capable of reaching at least 300whp for the $6,000 price tag for everything, I think it is worth it. We'll just have to see if the block can handle that much or even more, so right now, its just speculation. Either way, I think its cool someone has stepped up and has at least tried to develop for the N52.

Have you ever driven a 135i or 335i? That's a very interesting comment to read for anyone who has.

The elephant is the room is that centrifugal superchargers add mostly just peak power as boost raises exponentially towards redline. Little to no added low end, low to moderate midrange gains, then the biggest gains right at redline. A blower (Eaton or Whipple) would add power across the board.

A much better option is to trade your 128i in on a 135i. 250whp+ bone stock with significantly better low end and midrange. Then slap a tune on it and it's not even close. The only reason to keep your 128i and put a supercharger on it is personal attachment. It's not a financial or performance decision.

This is a neat kit, but it is a hammer to drive a nail that doesn't exist.
