New yorkers awesome news regarding plates

Just found out that switching to gold plates is not mandatory and that you can now renew your registration and keep your not hideous blue plates!

And there is a possibility NYS will switch to no mandatory front plate....

Operative word = possibility.

I'm new to NYS so I do not know if these things are always on the agenda or if the recent noted activity is a good sign.

Doubt it'll happen. Then they can only charge half as much for new plates, and that ruins Paterson's plan to fix our budget with DMV revenue.

Thats good to hear. The white/blue plate actually looks pretty good on my AW car. I also have body color plate frames so it all pretty much blends in together nicely.

DMV + Cigs + Clothing + Food = balanced NYS budget.

I'll gladly pay the same price for just one plate. They can keep the extra money. Problem solved.

Third option is to pay even more and get new plates with same numbers/letters.

Drove up to and down from Toronto this weekend; I think the new plates are kind of cool in a retro way. The "old" plates have always been ugly, imho.

Thankfully, I don't have to deal with either.
