Jet. Metallic black isn't really "black".

This is certainly a subjective preference but let me articulate my connotations with the two colors. The regular black conveys refinement and self-confidence. The sparkles in the Sapphire are trying just a bit too hard. In my mind it's the difference between the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Eiffel Tower in the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

If you are obsessive about keeping it clean and polished - I'd say go for the Jet black, but if you're not so obsessed and want a black car get the metallic.
Jet is cooler (IMHO), but I am obsessive! I had a metallic black E46 and was never as impressed with the shine I could get on that vs our Jet Black Mini Cooper! |

Jet Black!!
My first impression was that it should have been called Piano Black!! Very shiny, very elegant, very, very classy. Deep, rich lustre only BMW know how to create. Can't you tell I LOVE my new E90

All depends on your taste, and what makes you happy. I had Jet Black and Titanium Silver before, i got Sapphire this time round. I personally think it looks better than Jet, but man does black get dirty all the time (i live in Chicago). Silver gray or Titantium for me the next time round. look at this thread:

Jet black looks like glass when clean. Metallic has that "metallic" look to it (sorry, not sure how else to describe it ). Anyway, I went for the jet black glass look

I spent a lot of time going to the dealership and looking at both the jet black and the black sapphire in different light, inside, outside, right after rain storm, after the car dried (which one showed the dirt, water spots, etc.) you name it. The sales people thought I was psycho. In the end, the j. black was the winner. The metallic flake may give more sparkle in the day light or at night but, it doesn't look as black to me.
Go with the jet black. Besides, chicks dig the jet black.

I got Saphire Black over the Jet because in Miami the heat is harsh and metalic protects better against fading. I had a hunter green metalic 318i for 10 years and the paint still looks great even after taking hits from the beaming sun. My friend had a 318i with normal paint and started to fade after 6 years. Of course this is only if you plan to keep your car long time

I went with sapphire cuz i really liked the way the metallic character gave the color a degree of depth, but it's totally a personal call. If you like jet black better, then go with that. It does shine amazingly when all clean...
