Infineon track day

I am wondering if anyone else here has done track events at Infineon with their 1 series. I went up with a couple Porsche buddies and did four sessions on Friday. Great fun to really let it go. I managed to lap both of them (one with a 560hp awd Turbo). That said it took a serious toll on my tires!

There were some pretty seriously track prepped M3's that were running a bit quicker than me. Cheers, George

So much for the LF Pilot Super Sport, I guess I might need a new set up front. The price of having a blast.

I have not run a street car at a track since I drove my old M1 in the day. I have vintage raced since the mid eighties. I was about six seconds quicker with the 135 than in my '57 Alfa Sprint Veloce coupe (with a third the horsepower). I thought I would be a bit faster. Any traction control was slow.

I'd love to hear about others experiences at Infineon. What have you all found to be good lap times?

I sold it around '83. Great fun at the time, though I am guessing the 135i will give it more than a run for the money. The M1 got very light at speed and if I recall was about 277 hp. Wonderful steering, gear change, and overall feel.

Still no one with some good Sears Point track stories in a 135i?

I'm sure the 135i is faster overall, but the sound on that S38 motor is what I love.

Only Infineon track days I've been to are Wednesday drags. I'm going this Wednesday for my first time this season

Great photo. How prepared (modified) is your car and what kind of times did you get? Just looking for a benchmark as the BMW's out were modified M3's and a 318ti with an M3 motor and stripped out. No 135i's on my day. Also who did the photo (top of turn two)? thx

GeorgeJ, I have done a lot of the M3 bits -subframe bushing and most of the other M3 bits also LSD, Ground Control camber plates and struts, Cobb tune, oil cooler, exhaust, and APEX wheels and now a set Hoosier tires. I have been working on my skills and mods to the car. In the future I plan to start timing. It is amazing how fast our cars are, that Z06 in the photo, I passed him between 11 and 1 and lost him before 9. This was at a NASA event and Got Blue Milk was doing the photos.

I haven't been in my Uno but have in my old M Coupe and it was as close to religion as I have experienced. The esses can bite if you're not careful - last time I was there they ate a 996 GT3...

I had a Dinan stage II flash and upgraded tires to Pilot SS. Otherwise stock. I downloaded Harry's Lap Timer Pro and added a Emprum GPS to my iphone. End of the day looked like this (best was 3/10ths better than the fifth lap of the morning). I thought I would be a bit quicker given the power, brakes, etc., this is about 7 seconds better than I do with my 1957 Alfa Sprint (coupe) with a 1.4 liter four banger.

MDork, After the 1st time I ran Infineon, I thought I would never go back and stick to Laguna Seca and Thunderhill but I love it now. Infineon is a track that it is good idea to take your time and learn it before trying 10/10s. The wall coming out of turn 10 still keeps at about 7/10s in that turn.

I found driving the 135 to be such an incredibly different experience than driving small, light, old (vintage) cars around the track. Tons more power and braking, but allot of weight to offset that. The power caught me off guard coming out of seven and had a pretty wild spin to the outside. Also almost spun coming out of eleven. I have seen a few bad (read expensive) moments occur at ten and gave it plenty of respect. Looking at the speed through turns from Harry's lap timer I was being really conservative.
